My current favourite pet peeve, found everywhere: The past tense of the verb
to lead is
led. It's not
lead - if it rhymes with Fred, it's the metal that permanently impairs your cognitve ability if you ate paint chips as a child, leading inevitably to frequent language blunders as an adult. Short version:
to lead does not work like
to read.
Another on I hear frequently, though not necessarily on FR: hone in on. To hone is to sharpen a knife edge or razor blade. You mean home in on, i.e. to proceed toward a specific target; or, figuratively, to get straight to the main point. Think homing pigeon.

I’ve noticed many posters will not add an “s” at the end of a word ending in “ist” to make it plural. For example: “Those feminist are so annoying.” I see it again and again!
