I started out looking for an old remedy my mom used to use when I was small. She would dust my jean cuffs with sulphur to keep chiggers and ticks off me when I played in the woods. I looked it up and many websites said it worked. So, here is a website I found that is very cool and I thought I would share it with you. Does anyone have a special home remedy from the past that works? http://www.myhomeremedies.com/topic.cgi?topicid=232&page=3 I hope I have done this right. I don't post often.

Diatomaceous earth for intestinal parasites in dogs (and presumably people). Its also good for controlling soft bodied insects, slugs, snails etc in the garden.
Its non toxic and can be bought in food grade

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. An onion a day keeps everyone away.

A balanced diet with plenty of lean protein, fresh veggies, and healthy fats, drop the sugary snacks, 30-60 minutes of vigorous exercise every day, adequate sleep, plenty of water, and good hygiene habits make most remedies unnecessary. Trouble is best dealt with before it arises.

For earaches my mom use to get a product called “sweet oil”. I found some at Walgreens...I believe it's actually olive oil. Warming it slightly and putting a few drops in the ear with a cotton ball works wonders.

Diatomaceous earth (play /ˌdaɪ.ətəˌmeɪʃəs ˈɜrθ/) also known as diatomite or kieselgur/kieselguhr, is a naturally occurring, soft, siliceous sedimentary rock that is easily crumbled into a fine white to off-white powder. It has a particle size ranging from less than 1 micrometre to more than 1 millimeter, but typically 10 to 200 micrometres. This powder has an abrasive feel, similar to pumice powder, and is very light as a result of its high porosity. The typical chemical composition of oven-dried diatomaceous earth is 80 to 90% silica, with 2 to 4% alumina (attributed mostly to clay minerals) and 0.5 to 2% iron oxide.[1] Diatomaceous earth consists of fossilized remains of diatoms, a type of hard-shelled algae. It is used as a filtration aid, mild abrasive, mechanical insecticide,[2] absorbent for liquids, matting agent for coatings, reinforcing filler in plastics and rubber, anti-block in plastic films, porous support for chemical catalysts, cat litter, activator in blood clotting studies, and a stabilizing component of dynamite. As it is heat-resistant, it can also be used as a thermal insulator.

Yep, I forgot about the sweet oil or olive oil and yes, my mom used that too. Also, she used to rub turpentine and olive oil on my chest when I had a chest cold. I don’t recommend it because I have no idea if it worked or not but it smelled bad enough to make me feel better;-) (I still have a bottle from the ‘50’s from the pharmacy.)

Nature provides some pretty amazing stuff sometimes and diatomaceous earth is one of those miracle substances. I mix a teaspoon in with my dogs food about once a week.

Had an infestation of slugs on my lawn last year, and mixed one part household ammonia and four parts water in a spray bottle, a remedy I came across on the interwebs.
Very early in the morning, just before sunrise, I had great fun squirting it on baby slugs as they appeared on the surface.
It was pretty gratifying to see them virtually vaporize when hit directly with the concoction.

Wow. Haven’t heard of that..She would make us eat a section of garlic clove wrapped in bread to help get it down...I also don’t know if it helped or just made us sick to our stomache.
For poison ivy, which we had plenty of..She used poison ivy extract, internally. We use to buy it at the local pharmacy.

I don’t know about that. Ben Franklin was quite the party animal in his day.

It’s “chegroes”, not chiggers.
