"The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area. Each week, Big Broadcast host Ed Walker offers listeners priceless recordings of popular radio programs from the '30s, '40s and '50s. Priceless, especially, for a man whose first sentence as a child was, 'Turn the radio on.' "

Quite a selection tonight. “Tales of Fatima?” What is that?

Hi, Vision! It looks like the cigarette company is the reason for the name of the program (with Basil Rathbone!):

The Tales Of Fatima. May 21, 1949. CBS net, WCBS AM/FM, New York City aircheck. "A Much Expected Murder". Sponsored by: Fatima. A confusing story about poison, gunshots, slit throats, insanity and doctors with a knockout punch! "Habit is law. We're all of us slaves to habit." Basil Rathbone, Gail Ingram (writer), Michael Fitzmaurice (announcer), Jack Miller (music), Agnes Young, Francis De Sales, Harry Ingram (director). 29:32.

Gina, I saw Basil Rathbone at a speaking engagement once. He was a very dramatic figure!

Hi Gina. Last week's landscaping gave me an impressive case of poison ivy. Actually, it was probably poison sumac but whatever, there have been more fun weeks.

Oh, Vision, that’s the pits! I have gotten into the poison ivy on a number of our landscape/yard jobs and suffered greatly until a couple of years ago when I finally discovered something that actually WORKS on zappping those reactions: http://zanfel.com/help/

You follow the directions, and it’s literally a miracle how it stops the posion ivy/sumac/oak. It’s available at Walmart or chain pharmacy stores, and although it’s about 35 bucks for a 1-ounce tube, it is more than worth it!

I've had that same problem and searched all over for the poison ivy in the yard, but could never find it. I finally got rid of it by soaking in Aveeno in the bathtub!

How do you use it? When you suspect exposure or start to itch you put it on?

Dr. Scarpetta, Zanfel is a relatively new product, and it works like a champ! As I said, it is literally a miracle product.

Vision, it is a grainy, white paste, and you squeeze about an inch-long line of it on your palm, then you wet your hand and rub the paste with water for about 30 seconds to “activate” it. Then you wet the affected area/s and apply the paste to it. You rub/scrub the affected area with your hand for a minute or so, until you start to feel relief. Then rinse well. This will remove the poison oils from your skin, and the itching will be stopped in its tracks. After a period of time—within a day or so—if the itching returns, you have to repeat the process. It usually does not take more than two to four cleansings to get rid of it completely.

As for when you use it, from their FAQ page http://zanfel.com/help/productfaq.html:

Q: Do I have to use it soon after I get the rash?

A: Zanfel is effective at any point after contact with poison ivy and will provide relief regardless of how long you have suffered with the allergic reaction.

If you know within the first hour that you contacted poison ivy, sumac, or oak, some experts claim that plain soap and water might wash it off the skin. They suggest that washing is effective if you catch it within the first two to four hours after exposure. Other experts believe that unless you wash within the first 10 minutes, the oil will bind to the skin. Once the oil has bonded, Zanfel is the only substance known to remove the oil.

Their website says CVS, Walgreens and Walmart carry the product. I would imagine most any large chain pharmacy carries it as well.
