Seems like if you can find a canned vegetable for under $1 anymore you're thrilled.

My local supermarket had their house brands on sale Sunday: 3 for $1.25, and that's about as good as it gets. DelMonte etc are way *up there* , now. Glad I have 1½yrs in canned goods/water/tp in storage.

WIN gardens. “Whip Inflation Now” for those of you who don’t remember the 1970’s and Gerald Ford.

“Population must increase rapidly — more rapidly than in former times — and ere long the most valuable of all arts, will be the art of deriving a comfortable subsistence from the smallest area of soil. No community whose every member possesses this art, can ever be the victim of oppression of any of its forms. Such community will be alike independent of crowned-kings, money-kings, and land-kings.”

The GOP and Romney, or whomever, need to educate the sheeple - everything in the supermarket is brought in by truck. When the price of gas goes up, that cost is passed along to YOU! 0bama wants to raise the price of gas to $8 a gallon, so go figure how that is going to affect prices on the shelves. It has only just started.

The local store is no longer carrying the .50 brand of canned vegetables. In fact they aren’t carrying a lot of the cheaper brands they used to. It’s all about organic this and artisan that these days. Many of the shelves are empty and their game of “the truck didn’t come in” for their advertized sales is getting old.

I doubled the size of my garden from teeny tiny to little this year. Half a dozen tomatoes, three times that many peppers, lettuces, onions, greens, beans, peas, squashes, cukes, corn, and a couple pototo eyes from a potato that sprouted in the kitchen a few days ago. It’s coming along fine except for the weeds. Never seen weeds like this year. The plan is to weed again today. I also need to go through the cabinets again and get rid of never used stuff and stock up a bit more.

I grew up with the idea of Victory Gardens by way of my great grandmother. She taught me that gardening was good for America and the patriotic thing to do because it freed up resources for WWII.

Unfortunately WIN gardens will help the grower but few if any companies still hold to the laws of supply and demand and their costs will remain high if not rise even more. My electric company is a perfect example. They recently got approval to raise rates to make up for “lost” revenue due to falling consumer demand.

Hussein wanted gas at $4 this summer. We have over 2 months until summer and gas is already $3.80+. Prices for everything depends greatly on the price of gas. Expect everything but your paycheck to go up.

Control the distribution of food is the surest way to control the US Population. That is the goal of our elites.

Many(not all)people will readily give up their guns to feed their families.

My pleasure! Lots of gems in this speech:

http://showcase.netins.net/web/creative/lincoln/speeches/fair.htm

“...no other human occupation opens so wide a field for the profitable and agreeable combination of labor with cultivated thought, as agriculture. I know of nothing so pleasant to the mind, as the discovery of anything which is at once new and valuable...

And how vast, and how varied a field is agriculture, for such discovery. The mind, already trained to thought, in the country school, or higher school, cannot fail to find there an exhaustless source of profitable enjoyment. Every blade of grass is a study; and to produce two, where there was but one, is both a profit and a pleasure. And not grass alone; but soils, seeds, and seasons — hedges, ditches, and fences, draining, droughts, and irrigation — plowing, hoeing, and harrowing — reaping, mowing, and threshing — saving crops, pests of crops, diseases of crops, and what will prevent or cure them — implements, utensils, and machines, their relative merits, and [how] to improve them — hogs, horses, and cattle — sheep, goats, and poultry — trees, shrubs, fruits, plants, and flowers — the thousand things of which these are specimens — each a world of study within itself.”

Supply and demand always applies. It’s human nature. Its effects are not always obvious, or immediate. Government protected monopolies pervert supply and demand, but they don’t repeal it. Over time, people will find alternative products or services, if pricing is out of line with the intersection of supply and demand. DirecTV and Dish network were the answers to cable tv, which have local monopolies.
