TOMS RIVER, N.J. (CBSNewYork) Nighttime is fright time for a Toms River couple who claim the house they rented is haunted.
Jose Chinchilla and his fiancée Michele Callan say they hear eerie noises, that lights flicker, doors slam and a spectral presence tugs on their bed sheets.
The couple even called in investigators with the Shore Paranormal Research Society. The group classified the activity as paranormal but that it did not indicate a haunting, according to their website.
Chinchilla and Callan are suing the landlord for their $2,250 security deposit claiming the paranormal activity forced them out of the home only a week after moving in.
However, the landlord believes the couple was actually spooked by the $1,500 a month rental fee and made up the ghost story to get out of their lease.
The landlord has filed a counter suit against the couple.
A hearing is expected at the end of this month.
Alternate Title: Jose Chinchilla And Michele Callan Sue Landlord Claiming Rental Home Is Haunted
It will all depend on where they live whether they win or not. Since it’s New Jersey, I’m guessing they will win. Doesn’t matter how flimsy the excuse, even ghosts; if they live in liberal-land, the judges always side with the tenants.
Alternate title: The Haunted Chinchilla.
Not too far away from Amityville, NY!!!
After only a week?
Sounds like this couple is straight out of the movie "Paranormal Activity".
...a spectral presence tugs on their bed sheets.
Maybe it’s your conscience telling you to quit shacking up.
The Obama Presidency is so bad it’s even making the poltergeists restless.
I've had a few Saturday nights where the same thing happened in my place.
Time to call “Ghost Busters” or your friendly neighborhood exorcist.
With all of the foreclosures, even the poltergeists are homeless!
If they were only there for a week, what the hell, let them move out and just charge them a month's rent.
Alternate title: Haunt Couture
Or advertise it as a haunted house and charge the curious a substantial fee to stay overnight.
Demonic activity is also possible.
