San Jose Sharks likely to get roster makeover after early playoff exit
Contra Costa Times ^ | 4/22/2012 | David Pollak

Todd McLellan stopped short of labeling the Sharks' regular season a disappointment.

"We got where we wanted to go," the coach said Saturday night after the Sharks were eliminated by the St. Louis Blues in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series. "We wanted to get into the tournament."

But whenever a franchise loses its standing as one of the NHL elite, it's a disappointment.

So now what?

The angriest segment of the fan base has been calling for a roster makeover for weeks, and the volume will only increase after a five-game playoff stay that was the shortest in team history.

Before anything can take place, however, decisions need to be made about possible changes at a higher level.

Will ownership assess the moves made by general manager Doug Wilson in the last 10 months and decide someone else should do his job? Will the general manager stick with coach Todd McLellan?

Good broadcast crew, however. Certainly beats Pierre Maguire’s incessant and trivial prattle.

Hands down the best broadcast crew in the NHL is Razor Reaugh and Ralph Strangis of the Stars. They are so good that they simulcast them on radio and TV.

I will miss Drew if he decides to go back to Saskatoon.

Back when I played in the San Jose rec leagues Drew would sometimes run our practice if he was in town. He would
do an ice cut the old fashioned way with a snow shovel.

The Red Wings are due for a shakeup too after sleepwalking through their series with the Preds.

Rumor has it that Pierre may be in consideration for the GM job in Montreal. I guess he meets the prime requirement of being a Quebecer and Francophone...

I kind of feel bad for the Sharks. For a long time they were a really good team that just couldn’t get past the Red Wings. Now the Red Wings aren’t that good but the Sharks no longer have what they need to capitalize on it. If hadn’t kept facing the Wings during the meatgrinder years they’d have a Cup, but the Wings just had their number.

Pat Foley and Eddie No-check, er Eddie Olczyk, are a good team for the Blackhawks. Things were even better when it was Foley and Dale Tallon. Those two were like listening to a comedy routine. Before Bill Wirtz died, home games were blacked out. Fans would have to find a tavern with satelite to watch the game. The bartender would turn the sound down on the T.V. and put the game on the radio.

I sure hope they do something good. After cheering them on during the miserable years of the 60s, 70s, and 80s I have been used to them being one of the best in hockey.

I hope they don't slip back into ignominy.

He's very knowledgeable and his love of the sport is documented. However, his usage of facts is often ill-timed. That stuff should be addressed to in between periods or on pre-game shows. Talking about someone’s junior coach with four minutes left in a tie game spoils the broadcast, at least to me.
