Regardless of which direction the war of the sexes is leaning, one thing is certain: A gender gap still exists between women and men when it comes to buying a new car.

According to the third annual gender and car buying study by TrueCar.com, the brand with the highest percentage of retail sales to women in 2011 continues to be Mini (46.2 percent), followed by Nissan (45.7 percent), and Kia (45.6 percent) compared to 2010 when Mini (47.9 percent) came in first, followed by Kia and Honda respectively (46.8 percent and 46.0 percent). On the flip side, 13 of the top 20 brands in 2011 with the highest percentage of male buyers were either exotic or luxury brands.

I’ve had both. I agree with you on the traditional fender/light configuration.

IMHO. What makes this version slope palatable is along with retaining a little of the original fender form, it has 968 style pop-up headlights. The other slant nose styles were pretty much a flat wedge across the fenders and hood with those silly ‘brake vents’. Never liked those vents in front of the rear wheels either. WAY too Miami Vice for my taste....

I think you’re not legally allowed to call it “Intimidator” until you trade paint with someone...

We love our Honda S2000

Better looking than a Miata.

Yeah, I love it. Isn’t it more expensive, though?

We bought ours new in 2007. It was around 35K, I think

Almost paid off and has less than 20K miles (I got a job in Alaska soon after purchase so it spends a lot of time under the car cover)

They stopped making it (or at least importing it) in the 2012 model year so the only ones you will find will be used.

Fun car for the open highway, corners beautifully. So glad I talked my wife out of getting a Bug convertible. Dodged a gay bullet there.

Had a Kia rental on the Autobahn at 110 mph once. I thought it was going to fly apart. Benzes, Porsches and Beemers passed me like day old bread.

I used to know a guy that raced the old Minis. He had to be 350 lbs at minimum. In that car, he was a rocket. It is amazing to see a car pivot on one front wheel that is not turning.

He would take the car hard into a turn and make a right angle and blast right out of it.

I don't like the looks of the 2013. The 2007 I bought is a beauty and will outlive me!

I don't think a Geo Metro is a chick car. The Geo Metro just says you are either a greenie or cheap. I actually drive a 1993 Ford Aerostar cargo van that I picked up from a State of Washington auction for $200. It had been in a minor accident that broke the rack and pinion and bent the frame... I put it between two trees and bent the frame back with come-a-longs. A few hundred dollars in parts and it has been a very useful vehicle.

It is white and has those little six inch diameter hub caps that you sometimes see on government vehicles. It has a cage behind the seats. One of my co-workers wanted to buy it from me because he said it was so geeky that it was cool. It is very similar to the picture below except mine has ladder racks, a class III trailer hitch, air shocks, the largest V-6 they put in an Aerostar along with a heavy duty transmission cooler. You wouldn't believe the amount of crap that I can fit on it, in it and behind it. Best of all it looks like an official government vehicle.

Aerostar

I guess my former battalion chief has a better chance of picking up a woman in his mini.

LOL Something like that. When I was 11, I helped my dad drop the engine out of it and put a different one in. You should have seen my dad drive that thing. He's 6'3". With wife and 3 kids and bags of groceries, the family joke was that we put the car on to drive it. It was a tight fit. Summer in southern Italy, no AC in the car, and we lived 30 miles from the base. Still, fond memories.

They were a pretty good band back in the 80s.

I had a ‘93 Miata, and parted with it only due to circumstances outside of my control...otherwise, I’d still be driving it. Just be sure to get the removable hardtop as it will greatly enhance it’s utility if you’re traveling to a bigger city and will be uncertain about your ability to park it in a secure area, or if you’ll be driving it in a colder climate. Otherwise, enjoy nice sunny days and starry nights on the open road with the top down!
