April 28, 2012 (WPVI) -- Firefighters came to the rescue of a southern New Jersey man who became stuck in a tree while trying to reach his pet bird.
Dave Lovell tells the Courier-Post his scarlet macaw had escaped his home late Thursday night. After spending most of Friday looking for the bird, Lovell saw it at the top of the tree around 6:10 p.m.
The Cherry Hill man used a ladder to get in the tree and climbed another 60 feet to reach his feathered friend. But when Lovell couldn't get down and had to cling to some branches, neighbors called 911.

Don’t you wish you were there yelling: “JUMP! JUMP!” ?
That is also a pretty stupid owner.

The bird bit him. LOL. The final insult.
ROTFLMAO. Still laughing.
Lemme guess... is the dog a celibate, too ?

A scarlet macaw is a huge an beautiful bird. I bought a yellow-collared macaw (much smaller bird) and it flew off my shoulder one day when it was young and wound up halfway in a tree.
Once located, I held out my arm and motioned to her to fly down. She was scared and wouldn’t jump. Finally, after a little pleading she jumped and immediately started flying so she landed in the balcony of a nearby apartment.
I got the apartment resident to give me access to her apartment so I could go up to the balcony. I placed my hand on the floor and ordered her to “step up”. She walked right over and stepped onto my hand.
I walked home with both hands on my bird and decided I needed to have her wings clipped more frequently after that. Had her for 12 years and never lost her again. I think she realized that freedom wasn’t as wonderful as advertised. She decided a cage with free room and board (and climate control) was better than taking her chances alone in the great outdoors.
awww. This is really cute:)
Good! Nice story;)
I read recently where a Penguin bit a Newt.
I can sympathize. Poor little bastard.
Too bad we were busy Friday night...and it was half a continent away; we would have paid a quarter to watch it.
How do you “rescue” a bird from a tree? Isn’t that where birds live?
Just think... If nobody called 911, would there actually be a skeleton of a man and a bird in a tree, one year from now? Cool!!
Birds raised in a cage from birth would not have any idea how to take care of themselves in a tree, outside. They would die of starvation or other disaster if left in the wild. Which reminds me. I have an African Grey parrot downstairs that probably wants some scrambled eggs.
Never fails.......
