A 21-year-old woman has accused the bouncers at her local pub of discrimination after she was banned from dancing on the bar because she was told she was too fat.
ABC News reports Jordan Ramos, a student at the University of Iowa, who describes herself as 'plus-sized', says she was with friends at Union Bar in Iowa City last month when she tried to climb onto the bar.
Miss Ramos says she was told to get back on the floor because she 'was not pretty enough' and was 'obviously pregnant'.
ABC reports the bouncer told Miss Ramos the bar was at capacity during a night out on March 3.
She told the network she waited until a few girls stepped off to make room and tried a second time to stand on the platform - but was stopped again.
Miss Ramos said a friend confronted the manager, but he refused to discuss the matter and asked the women to leave.
'There was only one difference: I am a plus-sized individual,' she told ABC.
'The bouncer said "Look, you will never get up on this platform. Go back to the dance floor where you belong."'
She returned to the bar again on April 14, and was again rejected.
'He said, "Youre not pretty enough and youre pregnant." I said, "I can tell you with 100 percent certainty that I am not pregnant."
'He then looked at my stomach and said, "You obviously are." They knew I was not pregnant; it was there way of calling me fat without having to actually say it,' she said.
Miss Ramos filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission, but officials told her they could not investigate because size discrimination is not illegal.
The incidents, she said, have made her question her worth.

WTH is wrong with you? Because you don't find her attractive she can't do something everyone else is doing? Really? What planet do you live on? Who else do you discriminate against?
I don’t understand all the comments siding with the rude employees at the bar. She was just trying to have fun at a college hangout. She wasn’t asking to be allowed to participate in an activity that was barred to all. She was just trying to do what others were allowed to do.
I know fat bottomed girls make the rockin’ world go ‘round, but I think I’ll pass on this one...
Well trying to climb up on the bar fairly well settles the issue.
It was probably just a safety issue, there probably was not enough reinforcement supporting the bar and they did not want the poor girl to fall through the bar or fall on a paying patron.
I am absolutely disgusted by the comments on this thread. Only pretty skinny people have rights apparently. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Do you also discriminate against old people, black people, people with disabilities? Hang your heads in shame.
So why didn’t they just tell her she appeared too tipsy? Why the need for cruel comments? Is that how to run a business?
I agree that she should not have been told she is not pretty enough. But excluding people based on an arbitrary decision about their looks seems to be the accepted and legal, if cold, standard at many nightclubs.
Freepers showing their true colors.........disgusting behavior.
Anti-Viagra
Fun to ride, but you don’t want your friends to see you on one.
Exactly. This picture tells a thousand words and some of those words are warning the men to run away fast as they can from these high maintenance "princesses." Also, any young woman even wanting to dance on a bar, never mind getting angry over being denied the chance to do it, is NOT marriage material.
See my post at #16. I never said she was not attractive.
My late husband was not the most handsome mam on campus biut he had other qualities which made him very, very special to everyone who knew him. He was funny, loving, caring and the most intelligent person I had ever met. He majored in physics and did not have to go to class to make the highest grades in his classes. Check out-—www.aztechnology.com. It is the company he founded. The only one of it’s kind. I don’t let looks keep me from knowing some of the most interesting people around. Looks fade but other qualities are life long.
She would be running for a lawyer if she had been allowed to get up there and was injured when the bar collapsed. The bar’s liability insurance policy probably has a “no fatties on the bar” exclusion.
She’s likely two bills plus. A lawsuit would happen if she fell through. Damned if you do and damned if you don’t.
She is obviously over the weight capacity of the bar. The bar owner has every right in the world to keep her, or any other customer, off of his bar. If she doesn’t want to be discriminated against because of her weight she should lose weight. Being fat isn’t like being born black or jewish or white, it is something you can change if you really want to.
Only when they try to dance on a bar that I am sipping a budweiser at.
AhWaaaaaaaaaaa
I think the bouncer, if untactfully, did her a favor. Because if you think these comments here are rude, they pale to what she would have gotten from drunk frat boys...and other girls.
Like it or not, some things are reserved for the physically gifted. Such is life. Trust me when I tell you that you would not want to se ME dancing on a bar. I accept my limitations. Likewise I’’ll never grace a GQ cover. And you know what? I’m fine with that, since I have other qualities and an IQ that most GQ models can’t hope to match.
Nor do I feel obligated to force my physical unattractiveness on a crowd of people out to have a good time to sate my misplaced ego...because that’s what dancing drunk on a bar is.
Life’s lotto does not give us a free ticket to do squat.
If the bar collapsed under her weight she would crawl straight to a lawyer.
There are 2 rules for bar dancing:
1. No guys
2. No fat chicks
She violated rule #2.
AUGH!! Snorted my water! Thanks a lot...
She looks a lot like Rosie O’Donnell.
“chick too fat to dance on the bar”
Is that her Indian name?
She would have been the favorite party girl for a Vikings era bar.
I am sorry but this is pathetic. First, the frequency of people being offended or outraged by something is of epic proportion. And this whine is beyond ludicrous. This girl should keep this humiliation quiet and move on. A compliant like this should not be indulged.
Secondly, it is shocking that ABC (?!) would try to make this a national story! That tells you all you need to know about it. Liberal lameness. A business should not be told by the PC police how to run their business.
LOL.
look I'm a 3+ guy..I'm not doing it and if I'm out drunk and stupid and try the bouncer should stop me to ...same reason the bouncer are guy and not little girls....you size it appropriate for somethings you want to do not everything you want to do
“Why are fat girls and mopeds alike?”
No one wants to be caught riding one?
He did the fat slob a favor by leveling with her. Too bad her friends won't.
She should have called La Raza.
They are both fun to ride until your friends find out about it.
Geea...her forearms are bigger than my thighs.
If I saw her dancing on a bar, obviously drunk or at least having had a drink or two, I would leave the bar. And quit drinking.
If that girl fell off the bar, who in their right mind would try to catch her? That could be life altering if she lands on you. Now a 100lb girl falling off the bar is going to be catch-able. Try a 200lb+ drunk! OUCH! Owner of the bar is correct.
I like “chunky” women, and that young women would be attractive if she didn’t have that “I’m going to cut off your penis” look in her eyes.
Even though I’m attractive to heavier type women, that doesn’t mean I want to see them dancing on the bar. It wouldn’t look right for one thing. I tend to think that women that dance on bars are decoration, they’re nice to look at but they’re not exactly useful.
Just my two pounds worth...

You saved the Thread!
THANK YOU.
That is the FUNNIEST photo I’ve seen in a long time. Where did this come from? I love it!
Most top nightclubs wouldn’t even let her past the front door unless she comes with many more thin, pretty friends. Even so, girls like her can get rejected while their ‘friends’ are let inside. I saw one get rejected on her own birthday and left alone outside. I can’t imagine how bad that felt.
They also don’t allow men inside at all unless they bring a greater number of thin, pretty girls or pay hundreds of dollars in advance for table service.
The club scene is all about money and magazine looks. Men paying out the nose for overpriced drinks to be surrounded by stupid pretty women. The music is usually too loud to talk to one another so all that matters is looks and ‘looking rich’.
If you don’t like it, change your looks or don’t go to places made for shallow people. Do things and meet people where other things matter. I have never been a fan of clubs and usually only go if a friend is performing.
That Jose Cuervo songs keeps running through my head... “I had to much tequila last night.”
The whole thing is about owner liability. If she had gotten on the bar and fallen off, the Bar Owner would never see the end of law suits. Owners have some rights.

More cushion for the pushin’.
Here are my picks in order of appearance, 2-1-3-4.
Let me know if you disagree. Thanks for Posting.
Smart girls, it looks like they shop at Costco.
Did anyone consider that the bar’s fork lift operator might of had the night off?
If she fell and bounced, she’d be taking away their job.
Had to click the link to make sure this wasn’t another Meghan McCain story.
