and it's 8PM eastern, and it's still daylight.
I don't remember getting the longer days until later in the month.
It’s that “super moon” thing.... :D
Another unpredicted effect of GLOBAL WARMING!
The memory is said to be the second thing to go. I forgot what’s the first....
Yea man, I’ve seen it too. It is getting darker later than it has all year long.
I also noticed it gets darker earlier late in the year.
Obviously, it is a conspiracy.
Have you moved recently? The sun rises and sets later as you move west within your timezone, and the number of hours of daylight increases as you go north. Her in Toronto the sun will set at 8:24pm today and we got 14 hours and 20 minutes of daylight.
The last few years we went on daylight savings earliar then we used to, so we do get the longer days sooner.
Increased solar viscosity.
The sunlight clings to the atmosphere better than it used to.
It’s part of the Republican War On Women - this gives them more time to pound dirty clothes on rocks down at the creek.
You've been getting longer days since late December, you just may not notice it as much.
Also wasn't it just a couple of years ago that ET New York went on Daylight savings time? So a couple of years ago it would have only been 7:00 p.m. ET.
Weatherbug has sunrise and sunset times for your area. Our local sunset time is 7:37, and the suset time for the longest day is 8:04:31. But, yeah, I notice the later times, and I like it. Winter is so depressing. And cold.
Crummy republicans scared the moon away.
Does seem weird. Its cloudy outside, 8:17 PM EST, and I’m going out to get some more thing done BEFORE it gets dark. Maybe that supermoon is reflecting some extra light tonight.
Unfortunately, all these years of adding the daylight savings times hours has really affected globul warming negatively.
True, daylight savings time was moved, but from April to March, iirc, so I don’t think that’s the answer.
Which has helped our agriculture to become more productive.
The problem is all the daylight we’ve saved over all these years. Now we have a daylight surplus. I warned them, but would they listen?
They said it was going to rain today and it didn’t.
Something is wrong, terribly wrong.
Keith, my posting here at #11 was meant for Knarf.
It called the Sara Palin effect. Her being from Alaska and all you know. Not states are getting this extra sun light. Especially that close to D.C.
My posting at #11 was a continuation of my posting to Knarf, but I posted it to the wrong person. :-(
I was in Kentucky almost four weeks ago now and we were driving into the sun. It didn't set until after 8PM in Lexington. (The same thing happened last year on my spring trip to Keeneland.)
Sunrise/Sunset data for your town:
The days will get longer until the summer solstice on June 21st. Then they get shorter.
This has been happening for, oh, billions of years probably.
If it sets your mind at ease, you can use the old Farmer’s Almanac and see the history of sunrise and sunset times back to 1970. It has been very consistent.
(use this, change your location and play with the dates)
Its part of the Republican War On Women - this gives them more time to pound dirty clothes on rocks down at the creek.
And they’d better be pregnant and barefoot when they’re doing the laundry.
And they’d better do it early so they can cut wood for the stove to cook dinner.
etc, etc, etc.....
Note that times given are Standard Time (add 1hr for daylight savings time)
You maka me laff.
God Bless these posts.
Still Smiling, Brian
well, for starters you posted at 8:03:23 pm. Get your facts straight if you want to be taken seriously. /s
The Sun God wants the opportunity to shine on the blessed Face of our Dear Leader Pharaoh Obama as long as possible each and every day until the people unite as one to give him another four years.
Once that occurs, the Sun God can rest knowing that Utopia will finally be within reach. In fact, the Unicorns in the White House Stables are so excited about the prospect that they are producing High Octane Farts to power the Brave New World that Pharaoh Obama has planned for us mere Mortals.
Unicorn High Octane Farts are only possible because the Unicorns only feed on Arugula grown in the Moochelle Obama Garden fertilized by Magic Pixie Dust that is only produced in the Bluest of the Blue States. The evil Red State Pixie Dust is only used in Fracking.
Oh the anticipation!
The sun is not staying out longer than in the past. This is a leap year so it is a day later than most years, that will account for several seconds over last May 5
I feel like the sun has been rising earlier; I don’t remember the sun rising so early in April (I use weather.com’s sunrise schedule for some outdoor stuff that revolves first light).
The peak of late sunsets is around the summer solstice. And yes, “The sun rises and sets later as you move west within your timezone, and the number of hours of daylight increases as you go north.”
I live in the Boston area. My first trip to Toronto, admittedly near the summer solstice, wound up with sunlight past 9 pm I think. Because I was a bit further north and
definitely further west. I went to a Cle. Indians game with a friend and told him “it gets darker later here, I notice!”
Reverse when it comes to winter, etc. Check out a football game in December. A 4 pm start in Foxboro, MA—just about dark. A 4 pm start in Miami—still a lot of sunlight left.
Welcome to "old age".
