Dinosaur gases 'warmed the Earth'
BBC News ^ | May 7, 2012

Giant dinosaurs could have warmed the planet with their flatulence, say researchers.

British scientists have calculated the methane output of sauropods, including the species known as Brontosaurus.

By scaling up the digestive wind of cows, they estimate that the population of dinosaurs - as a whole - produced 520 million tonnes of gas annually.

They suggest the gas could have been a key factor in the warm climate 150 million years ago.

David Wilkinson from Liverpool John Moore's University, and colleagues from the University of London and the University of Glasgow published their results in the journal Current Biology.

Sauropods, such as Apatosaurus louise (formerly known as Brontosaurus), were super-sized land animals that grazed on vegetation during the Mesozoic Era.

For Dr Wilkinson, it was not the giants that were of interest but the microscopic organisms living inside them.

"The ecology of microbes and their role in the working of our planet are one of my key interests in science," he told BBC Nature.

"Although it's the dinosaur element that captures the popular imagination with this work, actually it is the microbes living in the dinosaurs guts that are making the methane."

Methane is known as a "greenhouse gas" that absorbs infrared radiation from the sun, trapping it in the Earth's atmosphere and leading to increased temperatures.

And these days British scientists are warming the earth with their flatulence.

In this common gas conversion table:

I don’t see f*arts listed.

The article specifically blames the farts of the Plant-Eating Dinosaurs causing Global Warming.

Evidently the farts of Carnivores weren’t as harmful to the atmosphere.

I therefore propose that AGW can be directly attributed to vegetarians, and even more so, VEGANS, and they must shoulder the collective guilt for the destruction of our planet./sarc

So, if they had Heineken when the Brontosaurus were around, the Earth would be like Venus?

Mrs. Bronto: Was that a volcano that just blew?

No dear, it was the tacos and beer.

I’ve cleared a Taco Bell before....

I guess enough large dinosaurs could do the same to the earth....

LOL....

For Dr Wilkinson, it was not the giants that were of interest but the grant money he could collect by coming up with a Global Warming link to his research.

There fixed for the sake of honesty.

I was cruising FM stations on my way to work this morning and ran across this idiot being interviewed on BBC.

I alternated between laughing uncontrollably and shouting “idiot” at the car radio, while trying to keep the car on the road.

What a load of cr*p.

And the earth was okay with that. It was only after generations of politicians foisted their flatulence on the planet that the threat of globull warming became apparent.

Yeah, but it was the little dino's farts that were killers.

Much more methane is coming from decaying vegetation in wetlands, lakes and oceans.

“Sauropods, such as Apatosaurus louise (formerly known as Brontosaurus), were super-sized land animals that grazed on vegetation during the Mesozoic Era”

Hold on here...a dino that went from a “Bronto” to a “louise”? Grew different colored feathers too, became a cross dresser? Somethings not right here, folks!

Indeed, yes. But worse, today many of our politicians (and their mass-media “usedull idiots”) are “global-warming” us with their flatulence. (The brontosauri were more intelligent. They at least knew to f*rt out the correct portholes.)

This is utterly preposterous.
Dinosaurs had about as much contribution to greenhous gases as they did to the creation of crude oil from their rotting bodies.
If anything were going to great quantities of methane and other so called green house gases and petroleum, it would be the composting vegetation that was abundant in the tropical rain forests common back then. Even that does not completely meet the reasonableness test. Global warming is a function of the output of the sun and not much else.

People get paid to guess at how much dinosaurs farted? Send ‘em to the rice fields for re-education.
