An extremely rare lobster was saved Monday by an alert employee at a Massachusetts restaurant.

The unusually colored “calico” lobster is marked by bright orange and yellow spots. But the extraordinary find could have easily ended up in someone's belly at Jasper White's Summer Shack restaurant in Cambridge.

I thought the leadoff was “An extremely rare lobster was served today...” Hey, does the lobster KNOW it’s rare?

Ooof... when I think “rare”, I think “steak”, why am I suddenly hungry? Surf & turf, yeah, that’s the ticket.

;^)

Lobster was so plentiful in colonial times that it was fed to prisoners housed on Boston harbor islands.

Just relating what I was told by a Marine Biologist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute years ago.

Not saying it is the only reason there are blue lobsters but that is one way of creating one.

I love the *fry* lobster tanks there...with the little guys swirling around....they’re smaller than a postage stamp. You can see how vulnerable they are in the wild.
