Sorry about that (as I chug a cold Hamm’s for $0.40).

I usually make Guinness Stew yum, so aftertaste is not an issue. I had to stop drinking it when I fractured my spine and was put on a lot of meds.

Not a drinker, but I can also tell when my favorite brands change their recipes, and I hate it! I used to love Pringles, but a few years ago they changed something (I think it was their cooking process) and suddenly I couldn’t stand the taste OR the texture. Same with several other foods that I just don’t bother with anymore because they’re no good now.

I consider it motivation to learn how to make my own.

I wouldn;t be surprised if they changed the recipe to save money. They did that to Schlitz back in the early 70’s and ended the beer’s popularity. That used to be my favorite unitil they changed it. Drank it once more after I returned stateside. Never again.

I only drink it on tap. Bottles and cans have a different taste to me.

Murphy’s, brewed in Cork, has always been better than Guinness. Guinness brewed in Dublin has always been better than Guinness brewed in London.

What, if anything, has changed about you? Not an idle question as some meds. change our sense of taste and our body chemistry.

Then again are any brewery workers missing?

Even worse, Johnnie Walker was going to close their historic production facility at Kilmarnock by the end of 2011.

Do you know if that travesty actually happened?

“It seems to me when they stopped using the “widget” in their bottles, the flavor changed.”

The last time I had a Guinness was March 17th. It tasted just fine & there was a widget in every can.

BTW, I always enjoy a “Black & Tan” on St. Paddy's Day. Simply fill the glass half way with a light ale (Bass Ale is best for the symbolism). Then carefully pour Guinness over top — use a spoon bent back to break the fall of the Guinness, so it stays on top. (Heat a cheap plastic spoon handle a bit, then bend it back, so that the convex side is up.)

Last few 6 packs I have bought did not seem as tasty as in years past, but I would need an A-B test to know for sure. Had not bought it in a few years.

I guess I've only seen the widget (Nitrogen pill, I think) in the cans. It would be a shame if they discontinued this as those cans (and the Bodington ones that have the same “widget”) are the closest to draught that I have experienced.

The Guinness Pub Draught has the widget. You may have received a Guinness Extra Stout unknowingly. I prefer the Extra Stout but that’s neither here nor there.

And what's with the bland "draft" version? Anyhow, I still consider Guiness OK, but if you want a treat look for one of the Russian Imperial Stouts offered by various vendors. Watch out for the 2x alcohol content though!

I think it’s you. I’ve had both (draft and bottle) fairly recently. Tastes like it always did to me.

Guinness is my favorite, but I will only drink it on tap. Out of the bottle or (sacriledge) can and it has a much harsher flavor.

I can’t say I’ve noticed a change though, but a lot of little things can happen that could account for it.
