the Barberini family in ancient Rome had bees in their crest and so i was interested to see it in stuff over there. the fountain near the Spanish Steps was exactly what i was thinking of, when i googled this.

I use them to garnish salads and other stuff-they have a very pungent taste that goes well with bland greens and tomatoes. Also, they are good sprinkled on some roasted and grilled chicken dishes.

I went out to do the lawn when it was low 70’s but the humidity made it feel much much hotter! So glad I’m done...I think the illegal law crew who pulled up next door kind of felt sorry for me. There were four of them doing a much smaller yard.

I already told you: the point is to smell good when you cut the grass. If you aren’t one of those people who go crazy about having a “pure” lawn.

I always get laugh out of seeing various lawn services using 2-3 workers to mow and trim the vacation properties that are mostly smaller than mine, while I do mine solo with my Grass Hog and hand clippers-are we women getting stronger?

“a “pure” lawn” does not exist out here-at least not for more than a few months after it is planted-runs out of dirt and nutrients and ceases to exist.

The soil is thin and rocky, on a limestone bedrock base. Native, drought tolerant stuff is all that grows here, but it is readily available at the garden centers. Weeds just get trimmed-they are ground cover, too.

I like it much more than a perfect city yard-less trouble, and no inaorganic chemicals allowed because of groundwater.

Oops-there’s no extra “a” in “inorganic”...

I just go out and cut whatever’s there, no fussing about having a perfect lawn for me. I have clover and violets and buttercups and all other kinds of things. As long as they aren’t jaggy, I don’t care.

Did not know you were in this area. My office is at 18th & M NW.

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

Good for you! I almost howl every time I see a commercial about some weed killer destroying dandelions. Dandelions are wonderful plants, just like clover-great stuff, and brings lots of butterflies. One of my favorite books of all time-Ray Bradbury’s “Dandelion Wine”-has a chapter dealing with the just punishment of a guy who mows down dandelions...

Those were my stomping grounds back in the day. I used to work at Connecticut/K st, and of course i went to law school at GW. i noticed that Rumors is still over there on L street, and Luigis restaurant. I feel like i have lived several different lifetimes here. I came to DC in 1978, directly after graduating from Pitt, undergrad.

I believe Cleveland has its peace officers memorial ceremony this weekend. Pipe and drum band and everything. Very moving.

police are generally great people.

It’s the politicians that and bureaucrats that are thugs
