DODGED A BULLET
self | May 17, 2012 | swampsniper

Posted on 05/17/2012 9:01:23 AM PDT by SWAMPSNIPER

I take 2 medications known to aggravate cataracts and Glaucoma. The cataracts are becoming a major problem.

I got checked out this morning, no Glaucoma, no macular degeneration and the cataracts can be eliminated.

I've been sweating this one out for a while.

Surgery on the right eye May 29th, June 19 for the left.

I know so many people who have had this “procedure.” All of them came through very easily - and they left their glasses behind!! So don’t worry - be happy that your vision will be wonderfully improved.

Thanks!

Cataract surgery isn't a big deal, I'm just thankful I don't have any of the major problems.

I had cataract surgery a couple of years ago. One eye then the other a week apart. It was a piece of cake, no problem at all.

After the surgery I was surprised how bright and clear everything was. I honestly did not know my eyesight had deteriorated. One eye is now 20/15 and the other 20/20.

What kind of IOLs are you getting?

Is the surgery for cataracts? Are they putting in new lenses? Everyone I know who has had new lenses put in loves the result!

Good luck on the surgery. I've had my share of eye surgeries, too (thyroid related).

I had a cataract removed last tuesday, and it was not a piece of cake.

Mine was considered severe, so the longer you go, the more it takes to get rid of it.

Good luck.

The opthamalogical surgeon has several ways he can deal with your cataracts ~ (1) with you under the influence of a sedative called Versed, or (2) with you wide awake with only a topical anesthetic to remove irritations.

He will use a medication to freeze your eye muscles in place and another medication to keep your eyelids open, so don't worry about that part. He has a head and neck brace to keep your head still and they'll tether your hands.

If you've ever had difficulty with any anesthetic of any kind he will be happy to have you tell him about it before he begins.

I had Versed for the right eye, but just a topical for the left. The surgery takes maybe 10 minutes ~ unless something goes wrong! Versed will make you less upset in that case. Subjective time is about 8 hours of course!

I don’t have a clue. I’ll leave that up to the doctor.

My dad put off cataract surgery for years. Had one eye done. As soon as he realized how much better he could see, he had the other one done ASAP.

The implants are incredible. Your eyesight will be as good as when you were a kid.

Keep us updated Swampy. I have mac in both eyes (worse in right eye) and cataracts forming in both (worse in right eye ... I guess I’m too far right, eh?).

Our late, greatly missed Golden Retriever, Prior Lake Jake, developed a cataract when he was about four years old. Our vet informed us there was a dog opthamologist (in Edina, naturally.)

The doctor informed us that he could do surgery for $890 and we went ahead.

Jake came home a little woozy with a lamp shade around his neck but recovered completely and lived a long happy life in Prior Lake, MN.

I and perhaps many others around your age, would be interested in what drugs aggravate the condition. Since many of us around your age, are taking meds of various kinds. Tell the doc to be especially careful with your viewfinder eye.

I’ll still need glasses but I can live with that.

Now you’re going to get to see just how good your photos are and you’ll get all big-headed and start working for NatGeo or Audubon and won’t have time for us peasants.

(Seriously - Good Luck and let God guide the surgeon’s laser!)

Audubon won't even talk to me.

A lady from the local group asked me how I got so close to critters. I told her I still hunted them like I was hungry!
