Anyone else listen to iHeart radio?
Selected my station this morning, and it's telling me I'm not on a compatible browser.
I am.
IHeart sux the big one.
Ditch it and get some streaming app from programmers who have a clue.
Works for me..using Firefox.
FReepers are intelligent but not clairvoyant. Which browser are you referring to?
Keep in mind that plug-ins/add-ons/extensions are considered part of the browser by web sites & developers but from a user perspective these third-party items must also be kept up to date. Flash and Java are notorious for frequent - but often necessary - updates for compatibility, security, etc.
Ninite.com is an excellent one-stop shop to automatically download/install these free apps and add-ons without having to wade through the installation process (i.e. no toolbar pitches, no clicking next, etc.).
I think iHeart might have become iHate Linux.
I can only get Rush on my IPAD through iheart, unless I want to pay for it every month. iheart is working fine for me.
Which ones do you like? I’m always looking for new suggestions. :)
I think it’s an OS issue, just tried it directly from a live Ubuntu 10.10 CD on the Firefox browser that’s included and it still doesn’t work.
Oh well. Guess they don’t iHeart listeners.
I avoid iHeart whenever I want to listen to a station over the internet. The most annoying part is that if the stream is momentarily interrupted, the programmers didn’t have enough sense to restart automatically when it is resumed. You have to ask for it again on your computer.
The streams almost certainly use caching/buffering to ensure an uninterrupted broadcast and/or to combat interruptions in net traffic.
If you’re running a strict read-only OS i.e. there is no disk folder to write to for buffering purposes perhaps that is where the incompatibility lies.
Edit: you used the live CD only for testing/comparison purposes.
Unfortunately the Windows/Mac market share determines the focus of the streaming site’s programmers. As before they rely on third-party platforms such as Flash and Java so those have to be up to date as well.
I think it’s just about Linux.
I’m guessing there’s enough overlap between the Linux user base, and iHeart listeners, they’re going to find themselves overloaded with feedback, and I’m hoping they’ll do something to rectify the issue within 48 hours or so.

Both also allow recording of radio streams and both have freeware editions.
It may be a lot of work for little payoff but what about a Windows emulator for Linux in which you could run IE?

Mine is working.
They have had it for many years it is called “Wine” it only has one program in it to start notepad you have to install any others you want.
I’m running Linux Mint 9.
