I have some friends going to St. Augustine next week and I'd like them to pick me up some Datil peppers, maybe even a plant. Where is the best place to get some? Do they have them in the produce section of the local supermarkets like Publix or do you have to seek out a local grower?
I've just started some plants from seeds I bought online but if I could get some peppers right from the source I could not only have something to eat now I'd have more seeds for future projects. Thanks in advance for any pointers.
ping!
I’ll do some checking around and let you know.

The weather has my cell phone on the rocks, start with these.

Here is a site for a local grower and source. If you scroll down you’ll see and address and additional websites to visit for plants.
These things are easy to grow. I soak them in apple cider vinegar for a great pepper sauce in soups and on just about anything. Have a great time in St. Augustine!
I just got back from there two days ago. Talk about bad timing. :P
I won’t be down there again until November.
I can recommend the Dat’l Doit hot sauce to keep you going until you get your peppers grown: http://www.datildoit.com
Just another satisfied customer.

Mmm. Thanks for the link!
Anythings good on smoked King Fish!
My dry rubbed smoked mullet ain’t bad either.
I was at a grocery store near there a few years ago buying 6-8 bottles of Datil Do It. The clerk told me that no one buys just one bottle of the stuff.
Thanks for all of the replies. I can probably buy Datil Doit in Orlando (we’ll be there next weekend). Another family is taking a side trip from Orlando to St. Augustine but I don’t want them going on a scavenger hunt. I have 4 seedlings started now and may possibly get some peppers this season but if not I’ll have a bumper crop next year. I was just picturing roadside stands selling peppers by the bunches. From reading some of the websites posted here it sounds like most of the crop is used to meet demand for their sauces.
I grow hot peppers as a hobby. I have Tabascos, Jalapenos, Habaneros and Ghost Chiles growing now. Datils are my latest project.
