It’s Time Conservatives Boycotted HBO & Time Warner
Townhall . Com ^ | Jun 15, 2012 10:07 AM EST | Townhall.com Staff

The latest insult (filming President Bush’s Decapitated Head on a Spike) from HBO is enough to put me over the edge. Join me and ensure HBO and Time Warner feel some economic pain. Jeffrey Bewkes are you listening?

It is time to close our wallets to HBO and all Time Warner Divisions. It is time for conservatives to “vote with their feet” and choose other programing, movies, and products.

Here is a list of simple actions each conservative individual can take (these are my opinions and not those of TownHall or its management):

- Cancel your subscription HBO. Fast, simple, effective.

- Never attend a Warner Bros film the first 4 weeks it comes out. The Studios usually get a higher percentage of the Box Office dollars the early weeks of a release. So wait to see their films and get your kids to wait as well.

- Never buy a Warner Bros DVD new. Just about every title can be bought on eBay and elsewhere at lower prices used (many under $3). This also means your dollars will not reach Time Warner.

- Be vocal. Spread the word. Call the company to complain every time you disagree with the political insults their divisions throw. A quick Google search will provide names and phone numbers.

Let management hear your voices, and not feel the effect of your spending.

I canned HBO years ago, and won't watch anything with their monkier. From a purely financial reasons I sacked cable TV 2 weeks ago and switched over to DirecTV but kept my internet connection.

I'm saving $50 a month for a few less choices and far better equipment.

I'm not looking back at all.

I would never have HBO in the first place...they have to jam a bunch of faggots into every show they make no matter the topic. FHBO and their support of every stinking libtard agenda.

There are times that I felt GWB should have had his head on a pike. Just a personal opinion. He was no Conservative and is responsible for a number of things that make my blood boil.

At the very least, the Game of Thrones thing is protected free speech. Boycott them if you like. It won't harm HBO in the least.

Although I technically agree with you, we'd see how far "protected free speech" goes if it were Dear Leader's head on a pike. I guarantee that HBO would be recalling those disks an offering to buy any sold units back. The race riot outside and the Secret Service on the phone would pretty much guarantee that.

The rules have changed.

No way would I support or pay for that degenerate network to begin with, just due to the presence of that sub-human piece of filth Bill Maher. The whole notion of actually paying to subscribe to the network, and having that money basically go right into Obama’s coffers, is like personally funding the bullets used to shoot at me. HBO is less a network than an enemy of everything I value and cherish.

I gave HBO the boot in 1999; I gave Time warner the boot in 2005.
All I have now is a broadband internet connection, an $8 Netflix subscription and an $8 per month VOIP service.
Last I checked, It costs me about $70 a month total.

No, dammit, I wanna be outraged! Sure, I saw the original episode, then saw it again on DVD, and then listened to some commentary—though not that episode—and then heard this on the news months later, but it’s a terrible affront to all that is good and decent, and I’m not going to take it anymore!

I am a history buff, so I enjoyed Rome, Boardwalk Empire, and my all time favorite: Deadwood. I also enjoyed the Sopranos and Oz, though not historic.

Enjoyed the Tudors on Showtime and Pillars of the Earth on STARZ and am excited about World Without End (Pillars of the Earth 200 years later).

I don’t subscribe to HBO so I haven’t seen Game of Thrones, but I do intend to check it out via Netflix at some point.

We may put different values on entertainment, but they just don’t have any good historical based series or miniseries other than on the premium channels.

At some point I find most of my favorite shows are packed with liberals and homosexuals

Same here. Hence I don't watch TV much anymore. I don't go to the movies at all and haven't bought a DVD is maybe 4 years.

Come to think of it, I don't buy much of anything. I buy food at local markets and my disposable income mostly goes to amm..er, pretty flowers. It looks like I'm Galt by default!

LOL, they react really strangely when you refuse 90 days of free HBO. The guy from Verizon actually didn’t take no for an answer and signed me up anyway. When I immediately called to cancel the free service (and file a formal complaint against the salesman) they were flabbergasted.

Fantastic. It always warms my heart to see people get on here and brag about how much they don't care about something. After all, it is pretty clear that most of our problems stem from people caring too much about things. If only people would care less, this world would be so wonderful. I'm also ecstatic that we have this web forum where we can gather electronically and talk about how much we don't care about stuff. America was built on not giving a ****, wasn't it?

Other than Oz, which is despicable I admit, I wouldn’t have a problem with my son watching any of those. He might catch sight of a pair of boobs, which isn’t going to hurt a young boy in today’s society, but aside from that, it is not any worse than anything on free TV.

I didn't say a darn thing about any dummy head. I was talking to a guy who was very proud of how much he doesn't care about HBO's politics in general. I don't know why you are obsessing over some dummy head. Frankly, no Freeper should be paying a dime to the anti-American Hollywood machine in any capacity whatsoever, and for a thousand reasons beyond some dummy head. No HBO, no Showtime, no cable, no dish, no movie theater, no nothing.

The dummy head is the article, the only anybody doing any obsessing are the whiners that think that means they should boycott HBO.

I don’t feel a need to punish myself for other people’s short comings. The fact of the matter is there are liberals everywhere, if you spend a dime at any company with more than 20 employees you just gave money to liberals, guaranteed. The real problem here is self righteous dingbats that like to make a big show about how much they “care” by making a bunch of hollow pointless gestures like boycotts. I’m sure you’ve been boycotting Hollywood for years and yet they’re still a multi-trillion dollar industry, they don’t miss you. Your boycott accomplishes nothing, expect possibly fueling an unearned sense of superiority.

I save my caring for things that actually do something.

Only someone with a weak argument and a lot of insecurity projects motivations on other people. I agree with you about Hollywood doing just fine without me, though, and you know why they are? Because a whole lot of jackasses who should know better keep shelling out their hard-earned money to support these idiots no matter how much leftist, anti-American crap they spew. Then these same jackasses sit back and congratulate themselves on how much better they are than those people who dislike having their culture and heritage shat upon enough to refrain from sending money to the defecators.

And hey, you want to know what a big difference is between buying T-shirts at Target and spending money subscribing to Hollywood garbage? Target is a company full of leftists, but which sells apolitical products. Target isn't actively spewing propaganda that perpetuates the leftist worldview to everyone who will listen. If you can't see the difference, then that is part of your comprehension problem.

I didn’t project motivations on anybody, you CLEARLY have a sense of superiority because of your boycott of Hollywood and it is ENTIRELY unearned.

Hollywood is doing fine because they’re making products people want to buy. That’s how businesses do fine. There’s a whole big wide world of life out there besides politics, letting it rule your life makes your life narrow and hollow.

Hey look at you, first whining that I projected motives on you (which I didn’t because you gloat constantly about how important your Hollywood boycott it) then YOU project motives on ME. The problem is I ain’t congratulating anybody, especially not me. I’m just pointing out the logical fallacy of your boycott obsession.

There’s plenty of leftist T-shirts at Target, not to mention Hollywood movies. So you’re wrong again.

Meanwhile I get to enjoy my life because I understand what I’m buying. When I’m buying a movie I’m buying entertainment, heavy leftist movies aren’t entertaining, so I don’t buy them. What happens to my money after it leave my hands don’t care, not my money anymore. I’m sure some of it winds up support causes I agree with, and some causes I don’t, doesn’t matter though, not my money anymore. What matters is did I get what I wanted. That’s what I buy.

Meanwhile you work yourself into a ridiculous tizzy about a dummy head that was shown over a year ago that was so unclear we had to be told by the director it was a model of Bush. And you continue to wave around your unearned sense of superiority. And insults. But that’s what we’ve come to expect from you. Lots of table banging and no content.

Good God. Either you have the most severe reading disability I have seen yet, or you are confusing me with someone else on this thread. Either way, you are making yourself look really foolish and petty right now. I never said a thing about feeling superior, nor about giving a darn about any dummy head, which you just keep bringing up over and over again. That's your projection, right there.

Is TV your life? Is that why you can't stand to see it criticized? Are you dealing with some deep-seated insecurity regarding your need for it? Well, you can relax. I don't care if you watch TV until your brain bleeds. My original reply, the one that set you off so severely, was only regarding that poster's apparent pride in NOT CARING. If that poster, or you, simply says "I know TV is left wing, but I love it, I need it, I want it" I would say that's your choice. But get on this conservative activists' web forum and declare how proud you are that you DON'T CARE, and that people who care are "self righteous dingbats", and you just make yourself look like a fool.

I've got a suggestion for you: read a book once in a while. Then maybe turning the TV off now and then won't feel so much like punishing yourself.

I’ve got a suggestion for you, stop thinking you know anything about anybody. You blather on and on about what others should do, but you don’t know anything about what they do. I read tons of book, I probably read more books than you. It’s not an either or world, one can watch TV AND read AND not be a self righteous dingbat. You fail on at least 2 of those.

Oh and nobody declared they were proud that they don’t care what HBO’s politics are. Before you go declaring other people have severe reading disabilities you should bother to learn to read yourself. He just said he didn’t care, not proud, just didn’t. Like most people. They buy their entertainment for the entertainment, not for the beliefs of the makers away from the entertainment.

No argument here. But that thought should make you cringe. It's no wonder that the rest of the world sees us as a bunch of selfish, crass, violent morons because that's what Hollywood glorifies. Once upon a time, before Hollywood became full-on communist, American movies showed Americans as the good guys, and really displayed a lot of the positive aspects of our character and culture. Now, Hollywood shows us as being the bad guys all the time.

The Iraq War began in 2003, 9 years ago. However, can you think of one single Hollywood movie that showed American troops in a positive light, that displayed any of the heroism and sacrifice they made? I can't think of one, but I can think of several movies that show American troops as rapists, murderers, and all-around bad guys, and that doesn't even count the movies that depicted US politicians who supported the war as hypocrites and liars.

What effect do you think movies like that have abroad? What effect do you think they have on young minds at home? Why do you think the younger generation are so easily duped by the Left? It is because Hollywood has become nothing but a giant propaganda machine, and its purpose is to undermine American prestige and culture both at home and abroad. Not every movie or TV show is anti-American or overtly political, but the proceeds still go into the pockets of those who hate this country. No patriotic American should support Hollywood with his money.
