Juanita Wallace, the president of the NAACP Dallas Chapter: Its the poor people, the uneducated people who spend the most money on the Lottery and its not going for [them] the way they thought it was going to go,

Isn’t it racist to say that the Lotto has to be stopped because blacks are too dumb to understand the odds?
it’s a interesting argument.
How much education do you need?
If they had paid attention in school, they would have learned a little bit about odds and percentages and other useless stuff.
stupidity is color blind. and the lottery is a tax on stupidity.
(but i guess that just makes it "constitutional.")
I blame the MENSA members running the cash registers. They’re like pushers outsmarting the po folk. LOL
Didn't they dumb-down the SAT score somewhat along these lines?

What was it they thought? |
I’m not sure what’s being taught in school.
We need to come up with a word for descriminating against the poor. We another “ism” so I suggest “poorism.”
Might as well get it over with and declare God as a racist.
Perhaps what they want is that everyone who enters, wins.
So Indian gambling casinos are...
The lottery isn’t racist but it does amount to a regressive tax. I voted against it and have never played it, and never will.
Maybe the racists at the NAACP landed the casino (vs. lottery) lobby contract.

1) The Libertarian in me would suggest that the guvment’ has no business being in the lotto business. Money for schools? Yeah, right.
2) The Libertarian in me would suggest that ANYONE that wants to throw their money away should be free to do so.
Couldn’t the same be said of the Nigerian money scams? That the most likely victims are the poor, uneducated people excitedly seeing it as their “big break”? What’s your response to that, NAACP?
Somehow that tax ties in with the recent ∅Care ™ tax ruling.
Yeah, maybe we ought to just get rid of the State lotteries because they’re racist and all. Maybe we ought to go back to the daily undergound lottery, kept the bookies in business if nothing else. However the NAACP just may get a little upset when they remember what the “Pool” was called. But it wasn’t “racist”, because everybody played it.
I remember working in a factory in the 70s, and there was a guy whose job title was “sweeper”. He carried a broom. But he also drove a purple Eldorado and everyone seemed to stop to talk to him every single day.
Come to find out he was the numbers runner for the factory, and took everyone’s bets every day. AND he had a second sweeping job at the airport where he did the same thing.
So, at least SOME people benefited from the numbers racket.
You remember what the pool was called....
Ironically, the people they’re referring to are probably responsible for getting lottery legislation passed.
I DEMAND an end to the NAACP, because it is racist! I'm not colored and I take offense to being excluded!
The State should not be involved in any lottery in any way whatsoever.
The problem here is not the fault of the lottery but the fault of those leaders in the Black community who have indoctrinated their followers to believe that there’s a way to get rich without having to work for it.
The only thing I object to about the lotto is that it does not permit competition. The states maintain a monopoly on gambling.
Back in the evil 1980’s, Pennsylvania had a battle royal over the budget, and we passed the June 30 deadline without a budget, and Governor Thornburgh shut down the government. No checks went out after June 30.
My girlfriend was living in a neighborhood with a lot of welfare recipients who were not getting their checks. She said that they were complaining that the lottery fund was flush with cash (this was before they started paying for perscription drugs for seniors with low income out of lottery funds). They were whining that they should be getting some of the lottery fund money, because they were supporting the lottery. I told her that if they weren’t supporting the lottery, they wouldn’t need to get money from it.
I broke up with her a few weeks after that.
Anyone who bets enough to make a difference in their personal finances is stupid and should stop doing it. But then not many people are poor because they are smart.
Wow. What next? No more fried chicken, watermelon, 40 ouncers, afro sheen, high top sneakers, gold teeth, neck chain medallions, wearing your pants below your buttocks, rap music, basketball, football, and Tyler Perry movies? They need to rethink their own racist thinking.
It's not racist - it's a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (aka the Joe Biden protection act.)
Just provide for a penaltytax ( SCt term art) for anyone not buying a lotto ticket Attach a receipt or proof of purchase to your tax return or pay a +++$ penaltytax.
A nation of victims.
Elections should be ended as well. Black people are going to be exploited by Barack Obama this fall and not to their benefit or beliefs.
The worst of it is for the most part, they didn't earn the money in the first place, someone else did and was tyrannically forced to give it to them to spend how they want to.
Here's one in your corner also.
But it's spread around on white, black, brown, and red people. Ha!!
The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court will no doubt agree with this.
The NBA lottery?
The lottery is a tax on stupidity. Good to know who those are.
I have heard this at 7-11
"Let me use this EBT card to buy a soda, candy bar, and bag of chips. Here is $10 I want a powerball, and some scratch tickets."
Yeah. And like, blacks didn’t gamble before the lottery. /s
Truthfully, lotteries do harm the poor. However, there might be a way around this, with a “faux lottery” that actually helps the poor.
States usually use lottery profits for some statewide program, like education. However, with some tailoring, lottery proceeds from poor neighborhoods might be skimmed off and used exclusively to improve those neighborhoods.
On the surface they would look like a normal lottery, but it could be used for all sorts of things that would directly benefit the people who lived there.
An example would be to set up a local farmer’s market, run by the locals, with artificially low prices for food.
But it would turn a ripoff into something good for the dimwits who play the lottery.
So if these people bet on “Hope and Change” can we outlaw the candidate who promised that?
Lotto is part of my retirement plan. I play it every week and am convinced that I’ll hit it big at least once before retirement age. /s
I'm sick of this. If you go in eyes open, knowing your chances of winning how is it a "tax on stupidity?"
Paying more for the same item at a grocery store that makes you feel more "comfortable" than the one across the street? That is a tax on stupidity.
The stupidity of NAACP duplicity is astonishig. If we use this person’s reasoning then all planned barrenhood ‘clinics’ should be closed because too many blacks use them volutarily. But then, to this group of humans the slaughter of their posterity is justified by some magic thinking they use which I have yet to fathom.
That makes as much sense as Social Security.
