Higgins wrote a novel (”The Speaker”, possibly) about a group in Mass. who wanted some State money to make a small extension to their hospital. They went to see the Speaker, who told them it would never get through the House. They pointed out that it wasn’t much money, to which he replied “That’s the problem”. He told them they needed to make it a much bigger project, so that the concrete guys, construction companies, and truckers would all get interested, and lobby for it. They did make it a big deal, and it was funded with big money.

The immediate purpose is not transportation but inflating the value of acreage that the state will purchase for right of way. It would be interesting to know who owns land or owns options in the proposed corridor.

I read the other day where Sen. Dianne Feinstein's husband is involved in this.

Found this “green” site, looking for something on Richard Blum, and found out instead about this legal flaw in the whole scheme:

Foundation of the Boxer and Feinstein Family Fortunes (together over $500 Million!) They buy land cheaply, often at Sheriff's Auctions of seized property. Amazingly, they then sell that land back to the state at 20-50 times what they paid for it as parkland, nature preserve, or you guessed it .... rights of way.

Pelosi is in on it, too. Her husband was about to become owner of the Presidio. The former base is the most valuable teal estate in the hemisphere! He's gotten away wuth plenty of other parcels, though.

Why is it that the American voter is too stupid to ask what the HUSBANDS of Senate and House Bimbos, and other elected officials spouse's do for a living? Start with Collins and Snow ... although pikers when compared to Boxer and Feinstein, they've done pretty damn well. $30 -40 Million goes a long way in Maine!
