Do I ignore or do I do what he does?

Posted on 07/19/2012 10:09:05 PM PDT by mamelukesabre

I sick of this obama tool relative of mine. In the last 3 months he has been flooding his facebook account with pro obama, anti conservative, anti libertarian, anti constitution, pro socialism, anti religion, pro gay military, anti capitalism, quasi commie sympathetic bullshit. I'm on the verge of de-friending him.

My extended family is of very diverse political beliefs. We generally do not talk about politics much because of this, unless we are certain everyone within earshot is of like politics. Yet this little peon thinks its time to break the age old family mores and go all out for obama...relentlessly and with such arrogance he doesn't even care how stupid the stuff is he is peddling. There is zero caution and zero reserve in his demeanor.

Here's the thing...my facebook account is really bland and low key. I have virtually zero photos. I have no profile pic. I have no personal info. I only put plain jane generic stuff up on my account. Basically simple small talk meaningless junk...and I don't do much of that very often. I don't even use my FB much. But the last 5 times or so I've checked FB I am getting all this pro obama crap to look at and it is coming from ONE relative. That just burns me up.

If I go on the offense to battle this pipsqueek, then I may anger others who voted for obama but refrain from promoting him and may have no plans to vote for him again.

I hope it didn’t come across as “defriending” but I’ve taken close family members off of my reading list....no need to get my blood pressure up...

Send him this.

Maybe it is dumbed down to his level, but I doubt it by your description of him.

That sounds a lot like my mental case sister-in-law who posted items of such puerile c-ap adulating the Mahdi that her black son-in-law said they were ‘embarrassing’. My wife and two first cousins just blocked her from their accounts and posted notices that they did not welcome highly partisan political or social matter on FB.

I had the same problem! You can change your news feed settings to show only important posts from the 0bama-lover. Hover over one of his posts in the upper right corner, and you will see a drop down box. This will suppress most of his posts. Good luck!

Cherry is right - just take them off of your reading list and forget about it - except when Romney wins in November, then turn him on again and have a little fun.

What’s Facebook? (sorry, that’s what us non-facebook people write:)

De-Friend - or De-Lead, whatever you need to do...don’t go into a flame war - because prospective employers read your facebook before hiring - if you ever need a job - you don’t want any politics one there....

Take him off your Christmas card list

You can use the setting that you will only get the important stuff.

Best thing to do: Select the pulldown menu at the upper right of any offending post and select “Unsubscribe from so-and-so.”

All of their posts will disappear from your page, as well as any future posts from that point on. They’ll never know you’ve done it either.

I’ve done this to few of my own less than intelligent friends. Works like a champ.

If he’s churlish enough to break the family custom of not discussing politics by flooding everyone’s Facebook with pro-Obama garbage, I suggest you don’t respond in kind. Anybody that far gone is bound to engage you in a political flame war, and you don’t need that within the family.
.
You don’t need to de-friend him—just click on “Hide all posts by this person”. That way, you don’t have to see what he posts (unless he directs it personally to you) and what you don’t see won’t make your blood boil. This has worked well for me.

Just posting some gentle links as reminders, to, oh, Rush Limbaugh, or “like”ing some FB sites of various conservative orgs helped me out with most of ‘em. The worst ones I just dumped ‘em, and didn’t care what they thought about it. They don’t seem to have noticed.

I know that a few dumped me, and didn’t tell me, as a consequence of one or two things they didn’t like. When my relatives are around they say consistently stupid things, mostly regurgitating the party-line talking points they’ve heard on NPR. My personal favorite is how the price of gasoline goes up because “they’re greedy”.

Blood is thicker than water, even when it sometimes has to run in the streets.

Man up and dump his sorry butt. Sooner or later you’ll get into it anyway so just cut to the chase. When he whines about getting shut out, tell him that’s your policy - no idiots allowed. Hey, it beats a knee in the groin at your next family reunion.

I’ve got a ton of zombie relatives that all know enough to reel in their tongues. Lefties lack simple courtesy and class and become all the more aggressive the closer they think they are to being able to wear their jackboots in public. I have no time for idiots in my personal space.

It's not a suggestion, not advice, not good practice, not a rational choice. It's a life and death moral imperative.

Provide no familial nor social support to any leftist. Shun them absolutely. Burn the bridge, piss on it, don't even tell them why.

Calmly state the facts that dispute his pro-Obama propaganda and leave it at that. That’s what I do.

I tried facebook. Hated it. Cancelled it.

It causes misery and annoyance to millions but they can't bring themselves to admit it.

The only people who really like facebook are the kind of people who enclose an obnoxious five page letter reviewing their fabulous year with their Christmas card.

FRiend, I have four other brothers and two sisters. My two older brothers are conservatives, always have been. I used to be a liberal, used to be that is. My one younger brother is a lib but generally he’s easy going and doesn’t engage much in talking politics. My one younger sister is a stupid lib(participated in the anti-Second Amendment Million Mom March) she generally shuts up when I start in on her. My youngest sister avoids politics altogether. My youngest brother is a totally different story. He isn’t just a liberal, he’s a hard-core leftie and I hate his f**king guts and he hates mine. We don’t speak and haven’t since my mothers funeral six years ago. I flat out told him when the revolution starts and I ever get him in my sights I’m dropping him and I told to do the same to me. I’m not kidding. My Dad is a flat out fascist , his greatest hero of all time is Fransisco Franco and he and I haven’t talked politics since I told him about ten years ago “Dad you’ve got all the historical perspective and political intelligence God gave a curbstone’’. And you think you got problems?

There is a way to “block” his stuff on FB. Not quite the same thing as defriending, but you don’t have to deal with all of his posts.

Btw, you can block posts from your newsfeed without defriending. At he right of the post, there is a drop down box—select block posts from this person. That’s what I did to a liberal, nihilist cousin of mine who thinks she’s the smartest person on the planet..

Practice snarky one-liners. It is better to know how the opponents think and practice when you can.
