There are lots of experts in this forum of one kind or another. Here we have James Holmes. Why wasn't he taken down? Would you have done it?
See, IMHO, this is true statements. Now, if 10 people in that place had ARs or similar rifles, loaded and ready to rock, then the guy would have gone down after spraying less than one full mag. Sadly, this is not where we live nowdays. I would rather sit next to a dozen solid citizens with loaded rifles than a thousand sheeples with not even a decent magnum wheelgun, much less a serious rifle, but again that is not where we live. Sadly.
I maintain that if that little fuzzy headed prevert had opened up at my local gun range, he would have spit blood before he had killed 12 and injured another 50. He might have got a dozen of us, but the other dozen would have perforated him and then pissed into his wounds. But again, this is why there are no mass shootings at gun ranges. The preverts know they won't get far, neither will they walk away in chains.

Went through a bunch of the first responses and they didn’t seem to have the facts. Aurora has no CCW, and the theater doen not allow any carry. So the answer is the powers that be don’t want people to be able to defend themselves like our nanny bloomberg here in ny.

I mean I can see in your delusional ideal world having all the toddlers, 10 year olds, and teens gathered around you, having ripped out the material from the seat cushions to make head bands for themselves, saying hey "We will cover you with Popcorn and Twizzlers fire while you go out to Lowes Hardware & Home Improvement Center to gather all this stuff up and get a background check from Walmart for the firearms and when you get back we will hit him with Slushy grenades and Coke bombs so you can sneak up behind him and do all that crap!!" Dude get in the real world no one attends a movie theater geared for an Search and Destroy mission to watch a movie with friends.
I mean really dude these people were outgunned with no where to hide, they were a bunch of pre-teens, teens, a few parents, and 20 somethings who came out to watch a movie, then being put in an impossible situation, so how in hech do you see all these unarmed people, many already dead or wounded, getting the drop on this guy who has preplanned this very thoroughly that he has the outside exist covered and has a free line of sight fire on those trying to get to lobby exist?
Without being there I do not have any idea what I would do in this situation. I mean if I have kids with me then I am going to be trying to keep their heads down so they don't get shot. If I am at the top row close to the lobby exist then maybe I try to get the kids to drop down and get out but really with the tear gas and dealing with the defening roar of of the semi-automatic it is going to be chaos and getting to the gunman it is almost impossible. So until I am in that situation I CAN NOT BLAME any of those that were targeted by a terrorist and put into a NO WIN situation.
Right, that makes my point all the more.

Nothing like a little hyperbole to make it sound unrealistic. It wasn’t a “wall of bullets”. It was one at a time. They were coming fast, and no doubt caused panic and awe, but rushing him at that moment wasn’t the only option.

Follow all that flash and report from gunfire. The bad guy is the one it is coming from.

Um, he only has 1 trigger finger, the other weapons not being fired are useless to him. Having weapons doesn’t make a person thwart gravity. He could be taken down just fine.

Any round shot into body armor hurts like Hell. You make it sem as though body armor prevents that pain somehow, as though he wouldn’t even feel being shot. All it takes is a round or two to get his attention, distract him, then finish him off. He’s only got a magazine of ammo before having to reload, not “unlimited”. I’ve got a magazine too.
So, why didn’t someone rush him or shoot him? Because we are taught to run away from violence and call the 911 instead of dealing with the violence directly ourselves.

All that, plus some. One would be hard pressed to describe a worse tactical counter-offensive position than being in a crowded theatre, with people scrambling in all directions, rows of seats bolted to the floor essentially preventing mobility, aisles serving as kill funnels for the attacker(s).
This is the kind of helplessness that gun-control advocates want for every person in the world -- worse helplessness than for the millions of Jews stripped naked and marched to their own slaughter in the gas chambers.
The leftists see this as a huge victory, and we can expect to see more of these in the coming months because Nobody Fired Back.

I am not ashamed to admit that I would have kissed the ground or ran unless I was well positioned behind him with some kind of weapon.
Most of the people were probably too shocked to do anything else.
I saw a video once of a guy being shot, there were people standing around I think, it was outside a courthouse or something. No one including the guy who eat the bullet had the kind of reaction I would have expected. They all just stood there.
We have not had any terrorists spraying bullets on planes either. Makes a slight difference.
