Just wondering what's the latest on the damage from the tornado that struck yesterday afternoon.
I just heard that anybody caught traveling in that town will be arrested. The mayor should be forcefully thrown out of office for doing such a thing like that in this country.
In a couple of weeks, I’m planning to visit Rome, Pa., which isn’t far away.
What about people coming to help people clean up? I know I helped when the tornado hit Western Ma last June, despise some elected officials whining non-residnets were coming into the areas to help friends/family clean up.
Arrested? Why? I followed the storm last night, which was technically a small derecho, and a couple of Elmira people chimed in, but it didn’t seem like the damage was that bad (at the time, 9pcst)
Clearly damage from straight-line winds, not a tornado.
I guess we all learned a new word this year: derecho.
Why should he be thrown out?
Isn’t he protecting the damaged properties from looters?
After Irene passed through our area, the only way anyone could go certain towns is if they could prove they had a residence there. Otherwise they had to find an alternative route. This was done to prevent looting and give residents some privacy from sightseers.
about 30mins away...
lotta pics and info in the local Gannett rag
Last year some trees got blown over, here in the sticks of Pa about 30 miles from Elmira, and you would think it was a #7 hurricane...:)
What is it that makes you think it was straight line winds as opposed to a tornado?
My brothr and sister both sitll live in Elmira. I talked with my brother Dave this morning. He’s without power, but says it wasn’t a tornado, just high winds and lots of rain.
Yeah. Like, where did that come from?
The weather service forecast last night called for a Derecho. Acted as if it were a perfectly normal description of what was expected.
I'd never heard the term till the storm that hit Indiana to DC a few weeks ago.
