My kitty cat Leopold had to be put to sleep.

Our cat Leopold had to be put to sleep. He had a severe bladder problem that couldn't be taken care of. It's a major problem for male cats.

Does anyone here have any ideas on how to cope with such a loss? I'm so heartbroken.

Well,he was my buddy.

I know it’s not the same as losing a long-time spouse but it still hurts.

I am so sorry for your loss. Consider going to the shelter and rescuing a cat no one else wants. Perhaps even a special needs kitty. They are forever grateful.

I’ve lost track of how many cats I’ve lost, as I have had cats since I was 10 years old.

Time does heal wounds, and definitely remember all the good times, and smile.

The vet could not put the catheter up into his bladder because he was so blocked. The vet said that surgery wouldn’t have been a guarantee that it would not happen again.

Plus the surgery would have cost an arm and a leg.

I’m very sorry. I had to put down my beloved cat, a year ago. His kidney’s had failed. Wait a couple of months and get yourself a new kitten. I’ve heard that you don’t feed a male cat any fish, feed them chicken and beef only - it helps to prevent problems with the bladder.

I've lost a couple of kitties that I virtually considered children, so I know what you are going through. If you have another cat, throw your affection into him/her and be grateful for the furry friend you have left.

I lost a little angel that I tamed from a feral kitten into an affectionate family member for 8 years over a year ago. In my grief, I went to the local humane shelter and adopted two kittens. It helped tremendously.

I’m so sorry. I know how you feel: my darling puppy died two months ago and I can’t figure out how to deal with it. She still haunts me in a way that other well-loved, deceased humans and animals have not.

I will pray for your and for your kitty. Here’s to hoping that we can give love to other unloved, lonely animals, in honor of the ones who have died.

I am so sorry. Over the years I have had to put to sleep two kitties — one was fiften and one was eight. It wasn’t easy either time. My advice is to get yourself a kitten. While a kitten will not replace the one you lost, you will soon find that the new kitten has its own special place in your heart.

In the past I always adopted a new cat that was in need of a home. Until then, maybe visit a friend with a cat. Yes it is a loss of a family member.

I'm sorry about your kitty-friend.
I've had to do that, too - but please remember, no matter how hard it is, you MUST be there holding your friend when they pass - we owe them that much.
I remember holding my pyscho-Calico Sarah when they gave her the shot and I could see a big thank you on her face - cried like a baby after, but was good to know I did the right thng.
Go down to the shelter next month and pick out another - save their life - you'll feel better.

What do you do? You remember the good times - the playful happy time... then you buck up — go find a couple of rescue kitties and SAVE THEM from a horrible life and early death. Dedicate their new existence to you dear departed pal.. I know - been there done that a few dozen times - Use you fortunate situation in life to make a few little lives better ... and then steel yourself against future loss - because it will happen again... it is the nature of life with pets who live but a fraction of our own years...

Rescuing a kitten (or two!) from the ‘green mile’ at the shelter is one of the best feelings you can ever have...be a life-saver...they’ll patch that awful hole in your heart in no time.

Also,he was only 4 and healthy until a few days ago.

Your grief is compounded by thenfact that the pet was so young. When we lost our dog to lymphoma we dealt with the grief plus the feeIng that it just wasn't fair. It does get better over time.

'Get a kitten'- good advice from FReepers. I know you are heart broken, and I am so sorry, but please go out and get a little kitten. They are so adorable and fun. It will help you get through this.
