Not to hijack a thread but I have been thinking about getting a AR-10 .308 type for hunting and also just to have one. Do all the same recommendations also fit? I was looking at the Remington R-25.

AR-10 rifles, while being mil-spec with the 7.62X51 NATO/ .308 Winchester cartridge, are heavier to lug around even with a sling, almost like an M1 Grand/ M1A-M14 rifle.

Good knockdown power on man and beast, but not the optimum weight for human comfort in hunting, post-Collapse society, runnin'-'n=gunnin', etc.

If You can get an AR-10, feel free to do so. But if You like the .308 bullet in a 5.5.6 commonality AR-type platform, then the .300 Blackout is where it's at.

['rant off]

The Remington is fine. I just picked up a Sig 716. The other response you got re it being too heavy is ridiculous. When firing the Nato round, heavier is better. Unless of course the shooter is a little girl, then it's too heavy.

Fact is that DPMS, Sig, Remington, etc, are all good in the 7.62 caliber. The problem with Armalite is that they use proprietary mags. You can't just use any 308 mag.

The sites I looked at seem to be overly concerned with what to do to fix the guns... not a good sign.
