Skip to comments. The best pick for Romney vice president? The one no one's talking about
Posted on 08/02/2012 7:17:21 AM PDT by Former Fetus
The Romney campaign announced Tuesday that it will alert Mitt Romney's supporters of his pick for vice president via smartphone app, renewing speculation about a potential VP and Mr. Romney's timeline for announcing the decision.
The great mentioning game for the Republican vice presidential slot has featured the same few names over and over: Tim Pawlenty, Marco Rubio, Chris Christie, Bobby Jindal, Mitch Daniels, Rob Portman, even Condoleezza Rice. But there's a candidate that Romney should be considering, someone who could help him with the Jewish vote, gain him support in a crucial swing state, and give him an exciting surprise selection bounce: Eric Cantor, the majority leader of the House of Representatives.
But Mr. Cantor, the strongest pick for Romney, isn't even listed on predictwise's otherwise exhaustive set of 26 possibilities, which even includes such unimaginable choices as Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, and Ron Paul.
Why reach way back into the obscurity of the House of Representatives to Cantor, passing over so many able governors and senators, most with much bigger national name recognition?

Yuck. Talk about “wimp” factor.
The Jewish vote will mainly go to Obama cause you “can’t fix stupid”.
Mind you a lot of Jewish Americans, such as Hollywood Jews, support Palestinians over their own brothers
Talk about dullsville!! Cantor is worthless on every level, as a legislator, as a leader, as a speaker, as majority leader. Please!!
However, but for Palin, no VP has really made any difference. It dominates the news cycle for about a week, but that’s pretty much it. Only we who follow politics care. And of course every single pundit will get it wrong.
Cantor has been mentioned before.
He’s a social liberal.
How about Dan Cathy? The man has backbone.
Yes. Palin. or John Sununu (he just turned 73)
Cantor is the highest ranking Jewish politician in the US - ever. Yet while so-called journalists figuratively fellated obie over his “groundbreaking” ascension, they have never even mentioned Cantor’s accomplishment.
Personally I would like to see Michelle Bachmann as VP candidate, but the attacks on her because of her comments on the Muslim Brotherhood and the current administration, have already hurt her. Sometimes it is easy to forget that we need someone that the "average" American will vote for... and that thought scares me!
Governor Susanna Martinez, but he can’t have her!
Sarah Palin or Paul Ryan
Any good American would do the job! Even an independent or a Blue Dog Democrat—just as long as they are an America.
And he won't chicken out.
Cantor will go over like a lead balloon as will most anyone else from Congress.
Palin or bust.
(she did not say that, and besides nobody remembers that anymore now anyway)
I thought Joe Leiberman, U.S. Senator-CT, was the highest ranking Jewish politician...at least currently. More identity politics. Haven’t we had enough of that in this country?
The big problem is who wants to actually run on his ticket?
Joe Lieberman? Fast Eddie Rendell from PA?
... There, fixed it.
I have a can of beans in my pantry that would be as good a pick as Eric Cantor. Not much use, not much harm.
Let’s see . . .
Eric Cantor - one of the triumvirate (Boehner, Cantor, McCarthy) that decided not to defund Obamacare even though campaigning against it. He/they have no courage of their convictions. Or, is it they have no convictions?
No. The whole Family Guy voice actor thing ruined his carefully crafted campy Batman persona.
Oh, the other one......
Wait, wait, I got it! Perfect Solution! Here's a list of candidates that the average American has ALREADY voted for, and what a pool it is!
Am I not right? They've already been vetted by the media, some of them are already embracing key Leftist groups, it can't miss!
(Mugawd, thinking like a sheep, I need a shower...)
So does this mean if we pick Allan West we can get the Black vote?
That and they’re 2% of the public.
Yuck. I have never seen him put up a proper defense of the party in a TV news type debate with a Dem. All he does when he is up against someone like Wasserman-Schultz is repeat his prepared talking points with that creepy smile on his face.
I am not impressed with Cantor at all.
Overall, a reasonably conservative record, though squishy on earmark and taxing issues.
But if Jewish voters aren’t already convinced not to vote for Obama... which, because of their predisposition to vote for dems, they aren’t... Cantor isn’t going to help much.
Romney did say he’d pick a conservative. I don’t see Cantor as being that conservative, but then, I could be wrong. There will probably be only a small Jewish vote pickup in this election for the Republicans. I know that many democrats are conservative, but it is in their blood to vote that way and they cast their vote for the same party and then complain. That is the definition of insanity, but there you have it.
NO...I don’t want someone who chastises a Congress member who is looking into America’s security (I believe he said Michelle Bachman should NOT be questioning the Muslim Brotherhood connections of Abedin)
Well, somebody IS talking about. How about the one no one is REALLY talking about: yours truly?!
Cantor has generally struck me as a RINO. No thanks.
Has he given the "No-you-dumb-cracker-this-is-what-I-really-said" statement?
Get back with me if he ever does. If.
Oh, the image that conjures...
Willard/Cat In 2012.
He’s said a lot more things that I like than dislike and I would be proud to support him for President let alone Vice-President.
Cantor? That would be an utterly pointless choice! That would alienate more people than it would draw!
“Romney did say hed pick a conservative.”
Actions speak louder than words..and his definition of “conservative” (along with the GOP-E’) ..may be different than ours.
Depends what his definition of conservative is.
Hopefully, Cantor is NOT Romney's idea of a conservative.
But, but, I heard that he ran out of chicken in lots of places yesterday....:))
I think that was Adam West.
We can get some of the black vote, most of the military vote, most of the Patriotic Americans vote, most of the Christian vote, most of the motorcycle riders vote, um, let's see, what's left?
The guy that REALLY nobody is talking about is tnlibertarian. That’ll shock ‘em. Pro-life, fiscal conservative. Plus, I have a birth certificate.
I’m not happy about it, but I think Mike Huckabee may have jumped to the top of the list yesterday.
Mickey Cantor is a wind sucking, Elvis pompadour, do nothing equivocator.
Should be Allen West- but it’ll never happen
