What is truly cruel, heartless, and humane are the people who abandon their cats on our Wyoming ranch where the cats face coyotes, eagles, hawks, falcons, bears, cougars, wolves, and then me.
I don’t want these cats infecting MY cats with feline leukemia and I also don’t want these vermin predating on or scaring my chickens.
If you cat ‘lovers’ REALLY loved your cats you’d keep them safe at home instead of letting them run loose to crap and pee all over your neighbor’s property and to be attacked and killed by predators.
I also don’t get how it works that one can be a conservative while simultaneously proposing that your cat has any kind of rights on someone else’s property.
Most cats that are outside are lost (got out on their own), dumped or born from a 'set free' or 'dumped' kitty. I have both inside only and feed the homeless. I know God intended for people to be morally responsible and HELP them -not kill them. Help them by getting them fixed/vaccinated. That is the humane sane way to handle the situation.
Our barn cats stay around the barn. The ones we’ve had who didn’t stay around the barn the coyotes get.
As to the cats that show up here as feral they just get shot. Period. The domestic types that come to the house *if* they are friendly we will put them out to the barn after a trip to the vet. If they hiss, bite, scratch, or etc. then we just put them down because there is no animal control unless we drive to SLC.
I’m not driving 250 miles for a cat because if I do then there’s children who don’t get taken care of, there’s chickens that don’t get fed, there’s cattle that don’t get taken care of, there’s a house that won’t magically clean itself and then I’m out gas money.
Bottom line, keep your cat on your property and off of mine and we’ll both be happy.
And if you want dibs on the snarling, nasty, mangy feral cats that show up here then pm me your address and I’ll be happy to send them all to you. Postage due.

My thoughts exactly! OTHER birds eat birds, too! If a cat can catch something that has the ability to fly high out of reach its but is too slow or too dumb to do so, it deserves what it gets.
I have a hawk in my neighborhood that eats doves/pigeons...while they are alive.

There seems to me to be a growing problem with animal activists who do not want to kill any animal. This includes animals that are positive with diseases.
There was a cat at the “no kill” shelter that they had up for adoption that had feline leukemia or whatever the contagious disease is. The notice that the cat was to be the only pet and all that seemed ridiculous. Cats can and do get out all the time.
Yes, people dump, leave behind, relocate cats and cats are good at escaping. I would hate to know that there are people out there who would shoot my cat if it got out...when all she was trying to do was get help from someone. It is heartbreaking how cruel and heartless people are...
It may have been Aids. The cat seemed fine, but there were admonitions it be the only cat and not come in contact with other cats. people petting her were supposed to use the hand sanitizer after.
Ironically enough, I've been out in the wilderness doing bird surveys, but just got back.
I miss all the fun.
As to this thread, domestic house cats are NOT a problem at all. Feral cats are. Yet I doubt the high number that this advocacy group claims.
As to the bird kill, most of the birds killed by URBAN feral cats are house sparrows (not a native species). But I have issues with rural (and remote) feral cats. They do prey upon our native wild bird populations. When they get into a national wildlife refuge, they truly do create real problems. But I know for a fact that many feral cats that do their "business" at a NWR are eventually killed or trapped by staffers. And quietly.
