Gentlemen may prefer blondes, but stressed men prefer heavier women -- at least according to a new study.
In this study, published Wednesday in the journal PLoS ONE, researchers at the University of Westminster in London subjected 41 men to a stress-inducing task. After this task, the researchers asked the men to rate the attractiveness of female bodies ranging from emaciated to obese.
Compared to a control group of 40 men who did not undergo the stress task, the stressed men rated a significantly heavier female body size as the most attractive, and they rated heavier female bodies as more attractive in general.
"Our body size preferences are flexible and can be changed by environment and circumstance," explains Martin Tovee, one of the study's authors. "We need to understand the factors shaping body preferences."

It depends on the weather.

Geez, I kind of prefer women with a little bit of meat on them. Not like the Goodyear blimp but a little upholstery doesn’t hurt. At least they have round things vs. stick figures who look undernourished.
Watch it! I resemeble that remark. I don’t understand why the issue is important. It is what it is.

LOL! And a lot of us have a very strong skill set in that arena.
I’ll play the role of armchair psychologist here and suggest that maybe being attracted to bigger women when stressed is something to do with reminding them of hugging their mothers when they were upset as small children...

Fat girls are like mopeds.
Both are fun as heck to ride but nobody wants to be seen on one.

Maybe heavier women are less likely to run off.
You know, being heavier and all...
My guess is that fatter women are lower maintenance, so less stressful when you have enough stress already.
Other possibility is any such proclivity is a leftover from our stone age ancestors, when fat was associated with times of plenty and skinny with times of shortage, which would be times of stress to escape. Hence an attraction for anything associated with ample food supplies.
This makes sense. Men love to be comforted. The more stress they are under, the more comforting they need. Skin and bones is not comforting. The Japanese understand this so well they sell girlfriend shaped pillows. Men under great stress need real women with plenty of padding in their pillows.
