Rebel Yell is the name of the schooner in my 4th novel. The skipper was inspired by the Billy Idol song, not the CW1 cry.

Thank you for posting this.

I never thought I would hear the Rebel yell.

These men are about 85-90 years old. It is amazing they could make that much noise.

I have read many Union accounts of hearing the “Rebel yell”.
It scared the bejeebers out of them.

You have to imagine 10,000 of these men, decades younger yelling as they ran toward the Union lines.

It unnerved the boys in blue, and made the hearts in gray stouter.

For a moment those old men were 17 years old again.

Thats what I derived.

All my life I’ve heard about the “Rebel Yell”.

I was born in central Missouri of mixed stock.

Hollywood turned it into a “Yee hah” thing. Those old boys had it in their souls from those days when their young lives were on the line.

“Still not sold above the Mason-Dixon Line.”

I came to South Carolina in 1966 as a new cadet at The Citadel. The local paper ran full page ads for Rebel Yell that said, among other things,

“You won’t like this whiskey unless you like grits, country ham, and redeye gravy.”

Lived here ever since. Wouldn’t trade it for the world.

I had 4 ancestors in the CW, all union, three were brothers. One started the war a private and ended a captain .

For some folks on this site that's an unforgivable sin.

If the right side had won, state governments would still choose senators, you’d need papers to cross the Mason-Dixon, and Lincoln with his progressive centralized government views would have lost re-election and gone back to being a lawyer.

Interesting tidbit: my wife’s “grandfather” was born before the civil war. That is unusual, wife is 65.

Secession is nonsense. CW2 talk is stupid.

We are a nation. It need not be divided.

It is time to kick the U.S. Commies a$$.

Remember, November is coming.

Now about your last statement. The correct answer depended on your perspective when that horrible war was over.

We have not seen the current degree of Federal Government Corruption and illegal behaviour since Reconstruction.

Some of my ancestors had a dog in that fight and paid a dear price for resisting. Those ancestors went GTT to overcome those problems.

Texas has never been subjected. It will not be now.

We may be able to practice it this weekend. Two Boy Scout troops are meeting in Gettysburg tomorrow. One from Michigan and the other from Maryland. North and South. Maybe we can recreate Picket’s Charge.

There’s a John Wayne movie about all that... Wayne plays an ex-union guy who bumps into a whole regiment of Confederates heading West because they refuse to reconstruct. My family is still here and we still refuse to reconstruct.

That is interesting. It is a shame they did not get four or five versions to simulate the charge of the unit. Still it was interesting with just one.

I wonder if somewhere in Iraq there are a bunch of former Iraqi solders talking about how they really kicked the American army’s ass?

Sometimes that’s what it sounds like around here.

I don’t mean to start a fight about why it started, and all that. My family has fought in all but the most recent wars. We’ve never been on the losing side. Is that what you do when you lose a war?

No, you’re on the right track- it’s about young Americans whooping themselves up to do-or-die for their cause.

No one in their right mind would fight again to re-instate slavery. But, we might fight again to avoid it...

Yep; they’re thick around here, too.

I can shut them (coyotes) up by whooping back. Once them southern boys starting coming you better be ready to fight.

They were under-supplied, under-fed, etc. but they weren’t no punks.

1) We deserve Obama, because we’re the worst sinners since the Constitution was signed.

2) Civil War will invite invasion from China/Russia/clients during the confusion leading up to the transfer of power. Our EneMedia will make sure it IS televised, so they will know.

I won’t be comforted when the EneMedia/Democrats are lined up and shot 1st for being traitors.

Right, but based on one person’s yell. I was saying if they had gotten two or three or four examples and used them in the simulation it would have been even more interesting.

Bashar Assad, President of Syria, has killed several thousand Syrians to preserve his government. The Syrian “rebels” want to overthrow it.

Abraham Lincoln starved to death and murdered 360,000 Americans rather than let them form their own government in their own states. His words were “ I cannot let them go”. What he meant was that the Union could not sustain itself without Southern tax revenue. The slave issue was written in by the victors to cover the actual issues.

If Bashar Assad is a muderer for killing his own to subjugate them what does that say of Lincoln?

I’m no fan of slavery- there are better ways to pick cotton.

But- some of the Founders (Jefferson among them if I’m not mistaken) were cool with the right to secede if things “went south”, so to speak.

Preserving the “union” under oppressive conditions worked, but has left a bitter taste many still remember through family lore.

We are all created equal. There is no guarantee of equal outcome.
