To hell with that place.
Me too, portcall24, San Francisco in the 1940’2 1950’s. City of Paris (department store) with beautiful 5 story tall Christmas tree with basement like a Parisian street. Edy’s Ice Cream parlor nest to Macy’s and all the flower shops and flower stalls. Sutro Baths, on the beach with salt water swimming pools at various temperatures, hot, medium, cold. Cliff House restaurant overlooking the surf near there. Of course, no one swims at the beach, ugly sand and rough surf. You even saw a few straddlers in wet suits then. And a wonderful fish house restaurant downtown with the prow of a beautiful clipper ship as the entrance. We came over on beautiful trains from Oakland(eventually sold to Argentina) across the bay bridge and then took street cars and sometimes cable cars to get around downtown.
Such a wonderful city then. And we called it “The City” and you never wore white shoes in the summer, only tourists did, since it was always cold and foggy except for a few hours in the afternoon during the summer.
Stay out of those hotel eateries!

The illiterate blog.
I can assure you had it been my choice we would have had this meeting in Texas.
Take a cab to Taiwan Restaurant, 445 Clement St. Great food, cheap prices (try the steamed dumplings and the Spicy Prawns - yum).
When you’re done, there’s a number of bars right there for drinks, or you could just cross the street and go to Green Apple Books, and lose yourself for a few hours in a truly great bookstore.
Thanks for the update on “progress.”
