Woman Accuses LAPD of Rough Arrest, Department Launches Investigation (VIDEO)

Surveillance video from a Del Taco not far from where Michelle Jordan, 34, was stopped by police has prompted an internal investigation into how LAPD handled the arrest, which the woman says was unnecessarily rough.

Update, Aug. 29: Officer Stripped of Rank in Alleged Rough Arrest

The security video -- obtained exclusively by NBC4 -- shows a patrol car pull up at about 11:15 a.m. on Aug. 21 near Foothill Boulevard at Saluda in the Tujunga area.

Police say they pulled her over for allegedly using her cell phone while driving. It looks like a routine traffic stop, until Jordan gets out of her vehicle.

"She made some unwise moves," said her attorney Sy Nazif. "But certainly nothing that warranted a physical assault from the LAPD."

Moments after Jordan, of Sunland, gets out of the car, officers put her in handcuffs. After some discussion, perhaps argumentative by Jordan's own account, one of the officers throws her to the pavement, head first.

"A short time later while still handcuffed another encounter occurred between Jordan and the officers and she was taken to the ground a second time," according to a statement released by LAPD Tuesday night.

Rough arrest?

This was over cell phone incident?

They way they slammed her to the pavement, could have easily killed this woman.

This looks really bad.

So will whites riots over this like the blacks rioted over Rodney King?

Permanent scars on the face tend to land huge settlements...especially if she can establish she’s an aspiring actress, model, etc.

The beatings are uncalled for. However, what is it with women and cell phones? Can’t they shut up for 15 minutes and drive?

Female thrown the the pavement head first while handcuffed?

This is becoming like Nazi Germany

The beatings are uncalled for.

Are you kidding? Being thrown to the pavement head first with your hands cuffed behind your back could easily kill someone.

Yeah, she was mouthing off, and that’s not warranted, but getting pulled over for talking on the phone while driving!! Only California. Tell me again that we are free in America. We are NOT free people in America.

It’s just lucky she dodn’t sustain a serious brain injury from her head slamming the ground. Also, she’s lucky her dog wasn’t in her car!

They are going to clean up the video a bit. It was hard to tell if they were white cops.

They must have been stunned when the taco joint came up with the video...

Ahh, the ever-popular resisting arrest. For swearing at the officers? Lord, had I done that to everyone who swore at me in my brief LEO career 30 years ago, there would have been few people left in town. Guess maybe I and fellow officers back then were not so thin-skinned. Haven’t lived until you’ve been called a pig by a crowd of anti-war demonstrators and that was about the nicest thing we were called by them.

Even her attorney admits she did some things wrong. Number one, stay in the car when told to do so. Not only does it slow down these things, but it is for your protection (and the officers), to keep you from wandering around in traffic. But two big ol po-po slamming a vociferous and irate woman to the ground? C’mon, you were trained to be better than that. So, the first take down was excessive but she probably (as we used to say) bought and paid for that one. The second one? Inexcusable, no reason for it. So she’s still swearing. She’s cuffed and in custody. Take her to jail to cool off. Be professional, don’t be so thin-skinned, and don’t feed the jackbooted thug stereotype. Idiots and they deserve more than they’re likely to get.

“Mouthing off” is not only warranted, it is required of all Americans. In a free society, public servants are supposed to be exactly that.

This will continue and likely escalate until the individuals responsible, the person or people who do these things as well as their supervisors and the chief, are personally held responsible and on the hook for paying the damage settlement instead of the taxpayer.

Otherwise, nothing changes for the better. It just becomes a reflection of the worst side or our human nature.

You know what they say about the corruption of absolute power.

A number of states have new laws against driving while talking on a cell phone. California is just one. Their current tiered version of fines is about to get heavily raised because people seem to think that cell phone controls them.

Same law in Nevada & I am pretty sure there are other states, also.

The California legislature was working on ‘other distractions’, including LISTENING to the radio while driving & TALKING to a PASSENGER in your car.

I have driven over a million miles in my lifetime. I do not own a cellphone, nor do I wish to have one. They seem too much like an electronic umbilical cord for me.

However, I have seen what can happen when people are not paying attention to their driving. It pisses me off big time when I see people grab their cell phones & drift all over the road.

No reason to do that. Not even once, but this was twice. For every assault video captured there are plenty more not captured on video. This has to stop. They need to pay a price and be prosecuted for malicious wounding or some such offense that will make certain they never wear the uniform again.

It’s appalling. We don’t live in Nazi Germany. This is not Russia.

I don’t have any sympathy for this type of person. It’s hard to tell exactly what happened but the first tackle looks like she was resisting after trying to get back into her car. How do the cops know she isn’t going to flee and start a high speed chase? She’s apparently already overly irate over a simple citation so I wouldn’t rule it out. I’m not so sure about the second tackle, it might have been excessive.

Either way, she should have shut her yap, got the ticket, and disputed it in court. She doesn’t get a free ride because she’s female.

Wow. You should run down and apply to the police academy.

At the site, the pic shows that both of her shoulders have abrasions as well.

This is completely unacceptable, but I fear that it will continue for too long, before the punishment of the offending officers becomes strong enough to influence the behavior of other bad LEOs.

May God keep watch.
