The drummer of an American disco group suffered a heart attack and died mid-show during a performance in Brazil over the weekend

Brad Parker was performing with his band Generation Esmeralda in Uba, some four hours north of Rio, on Saturday night when he suddenly slumped over his kit and then tumbled off his stool.

Video cameras caught the horrifying moment, as the 59-year-old's bandmates initially kept playing, apparently unaware that Parker was in trouble.

Roadies and medics eventually rushed the stage and Parker was taken to a hospital, where he died on Sunday, a producer for the group told local media.

"Doctors performed all the emergency procedures but unfortunately there was no solution," Sergio Lopes said, according to Agence-France Presse.

Video of the show caught the tragic moment and was later broadcast on Brazilian media.

Parker's body was flown back to California earlier this week.

Generation Esmeralda is a disco act formed by former members of Santa Esmeralda, which had its heyday in the 1970's.

“To Dispell All rumors and hopefully re-focus intentions to the family I am deeply saddened to report that during our concert in Uba Brazil last night, we lost our friend and brother Brad Parker to a fatal heart attack. Please exuse my feeble attempt to express our sadness over this tragic event. There simply are no words,” the band’s singer Jimmy Goings wrote in a statement on its Facebook page.

“He died doing what he loved best,” Goings wrote.

Parker was taken to a hospital, but doctor's couldn't revive him. "He died doing what he loved best," the band said in a statement.

"Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" by Santa Esmeralda was one of about a dozen songs in the 70's that was worth anything. In fact,it's a true classic of all decades.

The Animals version maybe. I’ve never heard of this band and never heard their version.

Rip off? So once someone has a hit with a song nobody else can touch it? If that was the case half my music collection would disappear. There are many songs that are great enough that they can be done by more than one artist and be well done by all.For me one case in point is "Mr Tambourine Man".Dylan, the Byrds and Judy Collins have all done it and all three versions are among my very favorite songs of all time.Three very different interpretations, all classics.

It is a bitch when you piss away all your money on Drugs Hookers and Booze and you have to play set after set for rent money in a Rio dive at 59. Yep...gotta love that! I know when I go that is right up there on my list.

Nina Simone sang the song first. The Animals covered her version.

Playing disco? That's an undignified death.

Who are you to say he needed the money? Maybe he just loved to still play? Plenty of famous musicians play in other countries such as Rio..they have fans there also.

Anyway, didn’t Elvis’ Heavenly Vegas Band need a drummer? (Keith Moon and Ringo Starr wouldn’t qualify.)

I don't know this band nor the drummer.

You've provided information I didn't know.

As you put it ... maybe it was relief and not pleasure that he felt.

I don't know ... good chance though he'll be warm for all eternity.

A man is dead and you’re all laughing.

Anyway, can you imagine the pain he felt when he had to fill out a form, any form, and put down in the PROFESSION box in capital letters, please, blue or black ink: “DISCO DRUMMER”, or sitting on a bar stool and answering a question from the drunk on the right “so what do you do?”, saying, “Oh, I’m a disco drummer.” Can you imagine?

Will the fans accept a new replacement or does the band have to retire now?

If they are the Beatles of disco, then retirement, but if the Rolling Stones of disco then replacement.

And if they are the ABBA of Disco, let all new replacements sing your songs in a cover band tribute tour.
