This roadkill was actually part of the Michele My Bell, the new “Food Furher” and her plans for organic foods on the menu.

Morgana, Morgana - fresh killed deer is fresh killed deer meat! There is little difference between a deer that has been shot and a deer that has been killed by being struck by an auto. Both only need quick work - from someone who knows exactly what they are doing.

I've been lucky enough to find several deer hit by autos on the road to my work-site - all still were 'warm to the touch.' All were immediately 'dressed' - all provided very good food.

If there is no body heat then it is harder to skin the deer, but that does not mean that the meat is going to be bad. If the musk glands were ripped open by the impact, that's a different story - possibly making it less than satisfactory, depending on how much of it went where. But, even that can be dealt with by a knowledgeable hunter.

I wouldn't recommend recovering a deer for the table to just anyone. It takes a LOT of work, and it has to be done immediately - and whoever is doing that work better know everything he/she needs to know. Otherwise it wouldn't be wise to tackle the job.

not positive, but I believe its unlawfull now in MN for the HP to donate euthenized deer to food banks. I had beed in Sicily because my friend hit a cow that was on the road to the Air Station. He paid for it and the herder got a friend to butcher it, pretty good

I have never heard that done in my area.

Well, you never were an orphan in Maine, neither.

"Please Sir, May I have some more?"

You have my vote.

Hey thanks, Lurk! But the Road Kill Cookin' and Embezzlement is only a small part of my savory past. I made it as far as Selectman and J.P. until the whole story came out.

If I ever get back in, you are the Deer Warden.
