I tried a liquid wrench product in a pinch..it smelled a bit like the gun oil of my youth

to clean an old SW double action first model 44R...that shoots GOEX black powder cartridges

it was incredible...cleaned the snot out of it

grime just poured off and wiped off easy

much much better than WD-40 or even fancy black powder solvents I’ve used

however...there are many new solvents out now..some even made by old Hoppes ..that are likely more designed specifically for guns and bluing

so I would only use Liquid Wrench in a pinch or wipe real good and then oil up

but I was sure impressed

On my "fighting / truck" guns (Chinese SKS, WASR & CAR 15) carburetor cleaner, Hoppes #9 and Remoil. On my blue, walnut hunting guns, I skip the carburetor cleaner.
