[Houston] Family questions arrest of 4th-grader
Houston Chronicle ^ | October 12, 2012 | Carol Christian

Relatives of a 10-year-old boy are asking why the Cypress-Fairbanks school district found it necessary to arrest a fourth-grader after he threw a plastic container at a teacher.

The boy, who attends Emmott Elementary School, remained in custody Thursday at the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center, 1200 Congress, in downtown Houston, where community activist Quanell X called a news conference.

"You mean to tell me that in 2012 we're now locking away children in elementary school for just disrupting the learning environment?" Quanell said. "The zero tolerance policy should be done away with."....

.....Photos of the boy's classroom, taken by a district employee after the incident, showed the room in disarray, with chairs upended and reading materials strewn about the floor.

Anna Patterson, the boy's great-grandmother and legal guardian, said he has a court appearance scheduled for Friday morning at the detention center, but she didn't know when he would be released.

"I was here last night, but they said I couldn't see him," Patterson, 70, said at the news conference. "I didn't sleep last night. I was really upset."

Patterson said school officials called her to the school Wednesday after the incident happened, but she didn't realize her great-grandson was going to be taken into custody.

"After I was there about 30 minutes or so, they came back in the room and told me they were going to arrest him," she said. "They said it was an assault against a teacher."

In the two semesters the boy has attended the school, at 11750 Steeple Way Blvd., Patterson said he had been suspended more times than she could count. But the suspensions were unjustified, she said.....

Darn pesky 4 year old! String ‘em up!

( The trouble is that many kids are spoiled at home, and cannot easily fit into any institutional, structured environment. The parents think that is just fine....the school does not.)

Reason should prevail. Parents need to support dicipline for their children within schools, but the problem is that schools are institutions of liberalism. Liberal dicipline is no dicipline at all.In this case they just export the problem outside of the school, and kick the kid out because they have a kid who is spoiled rotten.

It sounds like the kid is out of control and that it was more than “a little disruption”. The grandmother is in denial. Why is she his gaurdian? Where are his parents? It sounds like he has an awesome home life.

When I went to school in the 5th grade, small town Mississippi (1965) the HS senior who drove my bus was authorized to beat us half to death with a weapon fashioned from a bus tire tread.

These kids have no respect for authority because their so called "parents" have no respect for authority.

What parents? A lot of these kids don’t have parents and are being raised by grandparents (and in this case great-grandmother). Kids need parents.

“Anna Patterson, the boy’s great-grandmother and legal guardian....”

Good Grief....Great-Granma has to raise the child. Is Mom and Granma in prison...or hooking?

Instead of running around like a Black Ku Klux Klan Racist and blaming “The Man” (Whitey) for the kids arrest...maybe its time for Quanell X and his fellow Black Racist morons to have the Black Community take responsibility for their own actions. Their White Hate is never going to help this kid

In another incident:

Oct 12, 2012 - TEXAS CITY — A hall monitor is out of work and is the subject of a criminal investigation after he was accused of choking a student last week. The incident was captured on video on a student’s cellphone camera, the sheriff’s office said.

“With the exception of the techniques utilized as part of the Crisis Prevention Institute for safe management of disruptive and assaultive behavior, we do not condone the use of force or physical discipline with students.”

Carefully reading the article, it looks like this little demon was and is a disaster waiting to happen and that the school administrators, libs that they may be, did the exactly right thing in having the cops haul the screeching little sub-monkey off to jail. To begin with, he has a horrible, repeated disciplinary record. Then, on the day in question, he threw a fit, destroyed much of the class room, and topped that off by assaulting a teacher. It looks like there was absolutely no alternative other than giving him a thorough beating, which would probably have been better. This is no case of "zero tolerance" run amok; rather, the school authorities and police did exactly the right thing.

Schools are not always right, but they were 100% correct in this case. If the caregiver (great-grandmother - that's who is 'raising' this demon) thinks more suspensions than she can count are all unjustified, then the school has no options to control the brat and still attempt to teach the rest of the kids. He should be locked up again every time he commits a crime on school property. It is, sadly, time to give up on this kid, because the great-grandmother refuses to help in solving the problem.

Sounds like the kid was given a taste of his future forever home (jail). The fact that an assclown like Quannell the 10th was criticizing the school officials tells me all I need to know.
