BRYAN COUNTY, Okla. A 12-year-old girl did what she had to do to protect herself from an intruder in her home on the Texas border. She hid in a closet and shot him when he tried to open the door. Authorities said the preteen was home alone when the suspect rang the door bell. When she didnt answer, deputies said, the man went around the back of the house and kicked in the door. At that point the girl grabbed a gun and and hid in a closet. He had worked his way all the way through the house and into the bathroom, Bryan County Under sheriff Ken Golden said. And from what we understand, he was turning the doorknob when she fired through the door. Crews said she remained calm and called for help after she shot the intruder. Deputies said the man was flown to a Plano, Texas, hospital and is expected to survive. Golden said, She did everything she was supposed to do and as a last resort, she did what she had to do to protect herself. The intruder has been identified as Stacy Jones of Texarkana. So far no charges have been filed.
Mom and/or Dad taught that kid right.
I hope she gets counseling for this, as it most assuredly was traumatic.
Don’t you just love a story with a happy ending!
I saw the interview on TV this morning and did not see a dad around.....I know mom was really proud of her...
I was thinking the same thing ....
Yet I remind you all that there are some who assert that gun should have been locked up “to prevent accidental shootings of children”.

I imagine that will be set up for her. The perp is expected to live - that should reduce the stress on her.
Our oldest (14) said last weekend she wants a BB gun for Christmas...Daddy says we’ll get her a .22 ;)
Hopefully Oklahoma does not pander to criminals and Blacks like where I live in Florida. Yes this young girls parents raised her well
God Bless this little girl and her family!
How traumatic! In CT, the cut-off point in which a minor can *legally* be left alone at home is *12* ....hope there are no further repercussions for this family...they’ve gone through enough. Hope families around the country....who have responsible kids....are having *the* conversation with their kids right now ....you never know.
The parents of the girl should be arrested for leaving a firearm w/o a trigger lock where the girl could get it!
Sarc/off
