Skip to comments.VANITY..Romney was so weak Ron Paul could have won the Presidency.

Think about it. This election was purely about domestic issues, never heard anyone say voting for Romney because he has bad @ss foreign policy. Sadly, Romney did not win his own state with Obama taking 61% of MA votes.
1. Republican Nominates the riches person ever to run for President who couldn't connect with middle and lower class.
2. A flip flopper no one really sure his position. He was a serial candidate who changed as often as the wind blew. Even Goofus Rick Perry had him talking in circles.
3. Would never give details about his grand plan only to refer you to his website for information.
4. Would cut federal spending only to reveal the cuts after elected. Another way of saying I am not going to lie to you but once elected I will hammer you and your grandmother, no thanks I'll pass.
5. With a serious face propose Eliminating Big Bird after being pressured on the proposed cuts. Something two drunks sitting around fireplace would say only to wake up the next morning laughing at the thought. Only stupid candidates go after children programs during elections.
I could go on and on but you get the point, Republicans nominated the worst candidate available. Even Ron Paul could have won this election. Surely is not about Republicans having the wrong platform its about Republicans nominated the weakest candidate. The only good out of this, Romney will never run again and 2016 is a sure Republican bet since voters will experience miserable eight years of failed Obama policy.
Who knows? I’m an “alternate history” (what-if) buff so your scenario could be possible I guess. I’ll leave others to judge. I still would love to have seen a Herman Cain vs. Obama race myself.
How about some “Romney is so weak” jokes like those Your Momma is so.... LOL Only way for us to cope with the loss.
Romney LOST his homes states (all of them)
AND his home town of Belmont MA.
This was warned in advance, but ignored.
That is the way of the GOPe/MSM.
“2016 is a sure Republican bet since voters will experience miserable eight years of failed Obama policy.”
I WOULD have stayed home if Ron Paul had been the candidate. The guy is a looney tune.
Nonsense. Back to 1998 and the Y2K scare for you!
(eyes rolling into the back of my skull)
Oh please. Fraud Paul couldn’t even get 10% of the Republican vote.
“Even Ron Paul could have won this election. “
Paul might have had 4 million votes nationwide. That would have been it.
I disagree with much of your analysis, not that anything matters now...And no, 2016 is not a sure thing. If it is a sure thing for anyone, its the f##cking demon-rats.
I can’t imagine any of the other primary candidate’s would have done better than Romney given the Dem’s favorable demographics in the swing states and the strength of their turn-out machine. In my dreamland, Romney was Governor of Michigan with a less flip-floppy record and a self-made dotcom millionaire as opposed to an too-easy-to-demonize private equity millionaire. That guy would have won.
Sandy and Christie and Binders and the 47% and Big Bird and Bain and Mormons and Millionaires and Offshore bank accounts
These are things that the Media has breathlessly told us are things that we should be concerned about. And like good little sheeple, we have drunk their Kool-Aid. And we parrot and cite these reasons when we attempt to make some sense of this tragedy. And thus, we enslave ourselves to the tactics of the Left. We eagerly lap up their instructions on how we should conduct ourselves in the next contest. We fervently await their guidelines on what the tone of the next race should be and which candidates we should introduce. They make the rules and we end up playing by their rules.
Not me. I am a free American. I am not a slave to the Rules of the Left.
Sandy and Christie and Binders and the 47% and Big Bird and Bain and Mormons and Millionaires and Offshore bank accounts .
If you are a Democrat, Independent or a Republican, and you voted for Obama because of the above, you are an idiot
Thats MY rant
Romney lost because of mass fraud. We had huge turnout. Why does everyone believe that the movement from 2010 just “went away”? No one with any sense wanted obama to stay. This election was stolen, pure and simple.
I thought he would of been an amazing President...I totally disagree with you.
There is no question that Obama was extremely beatable this year. But the “crawl through broken glass to vote against Obama” voters were not enough to do it. We needed a strong candidate that would draw voters to the polls. We didn’t have one.
According to the most recent figures I have seen, Obama got a total of 59,127,919 votes this year. That is less than the number of votes that McCain got in 2008 (59,950,323). So all Romney had to do to beat Obama this year was to get more votes than McCain, and McCain was one of the worst candidates that the Republicans have ever nominated.
Bush got 62,040,610 votes in 2004. If Romney had simply gotten as many votes as Bush did 8 years ago he would have beaten Obama in a landslide this year.
I agree with you.
Ron Paul had something Romney didn’t: passion. Mr. Paul actually believes in what he’s talking about, Romney... doesn’t.
Romney lost because people saw him for what he was, and that was certainly *not* what he was speaking.
The GOP did a great disservice to its base by taking them for granted and anointing Romney from before the primaries. The rule-changes, the refusal to seat delegates, the bus incident, the teleprompter incident (all at the national convention) all indicate how much he was pushed, as do the incidents where the Ron Paul supporters using the stated rules for the primaries lawyered in wins only for the rules to be retroactively changed, and the several states which declared Romney winner and later said “oops” (until the next primary was going on; 3 states IIUC).
I like your rant! I may be the only person on FR who thinks so but I really like Romney. He and Anne have class! I think he would have made a great president. I see so many opinions about why he lost and of course the media has been busy telling us why he lost. Everyone is blaming him but I understand 3 million Republicans didn’t vote.
You know who could beat Obama? Me, at my doorstep! Focus locally. Do not divide your attention. Keep your local governments strong, keep your local governments conservative. It is a post-Constitutional America anyway. Fight for your family, your home, and you principles.
“2. A flip flopper no one really sure his position. He was a serial candidate who changed as often as the wind blew. Even Goofus Rick Perry had him talking in circles. “
umm not really. This is why Perry lost and it was because of Romney’s flipflops!
Heck no, I wouldn’t vote for Ron Paul. He has some good ideas, but is completely bonkers in most areas.
(That’s what we say to nuts)
Well, perhaps those who didn’t vote for whatever reason put pettiness, laziness, whatever, first, instead of love of country. We have become a nation of blame others first.
Actually, John Kerry had the richest wife of any person to run. Kerry was living off of the taxpayers and graft until he married Teresa Heinz and had access to all of the millions that she inherited from her last husband.
You are so full of $h!t We can smell it through your skin!
...but I really like Romney
Me too. The country was presented with a good decent man, emminently qualified to lead.
Tragically, we are now outnumbered by idiots. I fear for our future...
You’re going off election day totals. There are still votes being counted. Romney is likely to end up with about 3M more votes than McCain got and Obama will fall short of his 2008 total by a couple million. This was still a pretty close win and many factors could have turned the tables, but the idea that Obama was “extremely beatable” was based on the idea that people who voted for him in 2008 would punish him for his horrible economic record and the monstrosity that is ObamaCare. Instead 50% of the electorate blamed Bush, which neutralized that issue. And low info voters won’t get pissed off by ObamaCare until they start actually feeling the negative effects when it is fully in place. Of course, Obama lost some support, but they just stayed home instead of voting for Romney. And the Dem voter registration/turnout machine, buoyed by favorable demographic trends was able to make up for much of that.
Ron Paul supports Iran’s developing nukes. He’s a worthless piece of filth and if he had been the nominee *I* would have stayed home for the first time since I became eligible to vote.
Focus energy and resources on local elections. Aren’t Governorships leaning conservative anyway recently? Keep at it. Begin in the cities and states.
Imagine a country where the 3 branches are owned by the Left. And the states owned by the Right. That is a recipe I like! Not joking here folks - not one iota.
Somehow in Indiana we’ve managed to elect an evangelical Tea Party backed Governor AND Republican supermajorities in the state house and senate.
Hmmmm. I don’t agree with a thing you said. I tend to look at the man’s family, achievements, and contributions in life. I tend to be impressed with his business successes. being a leader, He would have called upon the captains of industry. I think he would have put the economy on the right track, rebuilt our reputation abroad by strengthening trade, established a great business climate for investors, and laid the foundation for good will across the country. Then, he probably would have turned it all over to the next president and he would have gone on to his next station in life. Someone might have looked and said, “Who was that masked man?” he would never have asked for a thing. If he received anything afterward, he would give it away.
Yep, 30 governorships.
To say a candidate is "beatable" in the abstract isn't saying much. Every candidate has weaknesses, but you have to find another candidate who can make the most of those weaknesses and win. There wasn't such a candidate this time around, and you can't beat somebody with nobody.
I give your rant an A+. Good post.
“John Kerry was actually the richest person to run.”
No, Kerry’s wife was the richest wife of a candidate. It was her money, not his.
So you would have preferred Obama.... That's why Romney lost. Too many Republicans preferred Obama over him as well, so they didn't vote. Romney wasn't my first choice but I would have voted for Ronald McDonald over Obama. To me, any conservative who didn't vote against Obama, the Islamic communist, is the one who's loony tunes.
“The rule-changes, the refusal to seat delegates, the bus incident, the teleprompter incident (all at the national convention) all indicate how much he was pushed, as do the incidents where the Ron Paul supporters using the stated rules for the primaries lawyered in wins only for the rules to be retroactively changed...”
At a convenion, when you yank the Party away from the base by using illegally called vote results, the base is going to revolt and they did and I don’t blame them. At some point in earlier months before the convention, Romney said he didn’t need to bother with the base, that he needed the independents. He ended up losing and so will the next RINO the GOPe brings the next time and I fear it will be Jeb Bush.
This time in 2008 the same swan song: "Give people four years of Obama and we'll have a lock on 2012."
The reality is that this level of observation ignores the democrats' four years of infrastructure, infiltrating the country like a cancer, through the social media. It now is known, that they never let their campaign apparatus of 2008 falter a single step.
They had offices in all swing states, over a hundred in Ohio alone, operating six days a week since 2008 to identify and register voters, coddle them along with the song and dance emails, the grandiose bill of goods, and the Starbucks coupons, and making sure they got them to the polls as early as possible, so they could go back and get more sheep and carry them to the polls, rinse and repeat. The GOP was asleep at the wheel. Again. Thinking they didn't have to do anything until the last year or so.
This why there were so few obama lawn signs out, why Obama seemed so placid and unperturbed, and why the rats made so little noise--by the time Romney finally won the nomination, the election results were already baked in.
And it had nothing to do with Romney as a candidate. Given the same inept party beltway plutocracy, Ronald Reagan would have gotten his butt kicked just as badly.
Crawl back in your hole. Paulistas make me sick
Mourdock wasn’t ready for prime time.
Anybody that listened to Limbaugh from January on knew the Dems inspired the Journ0list to publicize the “war on women”.
How could a major candidate not be ready to debate on that issue?
We traded an 80% Republican for a 97% Baraqqi - for 6 long years.
Yech, put my name in now: I'd be better than Jeb.
That would include Libertarian/Republican Ron Paul, Democrat/Republican lawyer Virgil Goode, not to mention Democrat/Republican Ronald Reagan.
This article is PROOF that Radical Paulistineans really do have a sense of humor!!
Let’s disspell that myth, once and for all!
LOL only Bush can get away with it because you can laugh with him. No one laugh when Perry did it.
