A couple of weeks ago I was aimlessly changing channels when I came across CBS's "Vegas", a drama about the mob in Las Vegas in the early 1960's. It's a fantastic show, with a strong sense of right and wrong, and I didn't even know that the show existed.
So evidently not all of TV is either mindless reality or bland comedy. Any suggestions for other good TV dramas?
Well I watch other shows I will not list but NCIS is still good, also Dexter ,the Walking Dead
I like Burn Notice. You can watch old episodes on Netflix

NCIS and Burn Notice are the only two I watch religiously.
Good TV was eliminated with the influx of PC network executives, years ago. I quit watching TV with the exception of ‘House’, which they are cancelling - it figures!

If you can get past the good guys being the bad guys and the bad guys being the good guys, I’d recommend “Sons of Anarchy”. The first 3 seasons are on Netflix.
I like Sons of Anarchy. Also found Mad Men on Netflix.
I watched Weeds and Breaking Bad on Netflix.
Person of interest, NCIS, Dexter, Breaking Bad, Last Resort,
Homeland, Justified, Hell on Wheels, Walking Dead.
Warning—these are nor for the kiddies.
Most previous seasons available on Disc from Netflix or whatever, episodes of current seasons are usually available from itunes, etc.

Watched Vegas for the first time last night...
Found it kinda dry and boring...
Now I see in the next show the good guys and bad guys join together to fight.....something....
I’ll stick with NCIS and Burn Notice...
REVOLUTION on NBC is an *excellent* show, IMO. Besides football on Sunday's, it's the only thing I watch on TV.
Re-Runs are available on Hulu Plus if you have that to catch-up.
Yes , Person of Interest & Elementary are good.

Funny I wanted to like Revolution very much, but it seem to grow old on me very fast.
I forgot to add Falling Skies to my list.
Yeah, and it’s a little too cliched.
It’s watchable though.
Many of the sorter season dramas on the cable networks are pretty good.

Funny I see that about White Collar (which hasn’t been on as long) more than Burn Notice.

Best show on TV=tie between “Sons of Anarchy” and “Homeland,” with “Dexter” a close second. Later, “Suits” and “Hell on Wheels” start up, then later “Boss,” then “Breaking Bad” for it’s final eight episodes. (Guess I should have put “Breaking Bad” first-—fantastic, but the series is almost over).
Justified and The Good Wife are my favorites
Also, if you have never seen Chiklis in “The Shield,” it remains the best show ever on TV. “The Wire” is a close second. Rent them.
If you enjoy the medieval period you might like Game Of Thrones on HBO. It’s fantasy fiction and psychological thriller with a little horror thrown in, sort of Pillars Of The Earth if it were written by Dean Koontz, lol.
Well acted, well cast, beautiful sets, props, costuming and location (Ireland).
It can be quite adult at times, and it can be gory. It’s almost put me off because of this several times.
I’ll say the same for Boardwalk Empire, just a beautiful production, Steve Buscemi is the embodiment of a mob boss, surprisingly enough. Again, quite adult at times, and can be gory. Setting is early Atlantic City, teens and twenties, boom years. Stunning show, but disturbing at times.
The premises that some tv programs just do not hold up well ongoing series. They would be better served to be mini-series, I think.
I enjoyed Political Animals. It has about 6 episodes, IIRC. It didn’t get enough viewership to get renewed, but it didn’t have a cliff-hanger ending the left viewers hanging after it was cancelled.
There are still many TV series from the past 40 years that ended with cliff-hangers and no series resolutions.
The DNC...and the GOP...pretty good corruption and mob’ish like show.
“Last Resort”, Thursday nights on ABC......Absolutely riveting.
I’d go back and watch all the seasons of “24,” possibly the last TV series made by a conservative.
If you don’t mind a show with no sense of right or wrong and you like Michael Chiklis (the bad gangster from Vegas), I can’t recommend highly enough getting all episodes of “the Sheild.” However, as noted above, it is very morally ambiguous and the bad guys often win.

The best series of the last decade was fx’s The Shield. 7 seasons of awesomeness.
Most of these have the first few seasons on Netflix. Of course, all are available through bitorrent downloads from the internet - but not that I would ever advocate such a thing... ;-)

Most amazing scene, when the white drug dealing “yuts” using all the ghetto slang are being surveilled by the two black detectives. They are saying, “Yo my n...r, zup” etc. The two black detectives turn to each other and one says “White mothe#%#@s steal EVERYTHING!”
i enjoy NCIS, CASTLE is fun but is a cross between drama and humor (but not comedy), BLUE BLOODS, BURN NOTICE, WHITE COLLAR, LEVERAGE.
the problem with many of these is you have to start at the beginning to really understand the character development and interaction which is what i enjoy.
if you want to sci fi, i like BABYLON 5, FARSCAPE, STAR TREK DEEP SPACE 9, STARGATE SG-1
i think i just listed much of my DVD collection.
I alos like Masterpiece Mystery on PBS, especially the Inspector Zen and Inspector Lewis episodes.
I like TREME on HBO about post-katrine New Orleans. Excellent dose of music. Some interesting story lines. Start at the beginning. I think this is the third season. Good cast.

With all due respect, I have felt very strongly that Steve Buscemi was terribly miscast as Nucky. I find that at times when his character is supposed to be most menacing he comes off as almost laughable to me.
I second Kartographers recommendation of Elementary. Really like it.
