Is this just crazy or just the lack of fear....Jeb Corliss ”Grinding The Crack”

What to you get when you go out looking for one of the daring (craziest) people on earth, give him a flying bat suit (a flying wing suit), a bunch of GoPro cameras and tell him to jump off a cliff?

This video.

Meet Jeb Corliss. Asked about the risk defying adventures, “I go out there expecting death”. That pretty much explains Jeb. For as long as he can remember, Jeb Corliss has dreamed of flying. One of his earliest memories came when he was 6 and sitting in the back of his aunt’s car watching birds jump from telephone poles, opening their wings and soaring. “When I get older, I’m going to do that,” he said. His aunt explained that when he got older he would realize that humans can’t fly. “Maybe you can’t,” he replied, “but I’m going to.”

Corliss has dedicated his life to human flight, and in so doing often makes the seemingly impossible a reality. He is one of the world’s foremost and best-known BASE-jumpers and wingsuit pilots. BASE stands for Building, Antenna, Span (bridges) and Earth (cliffs) all objects practitioners leap from using a parachute. In 14 years, Corliss has made more than 1,000 jumps, from the likes of the Eiffel Tower, Golden Gate Bridge, Angel Falls in Venezuela, the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and into a half-mile deep cave in China.

“Grinding the Crack” was filmed at the Swiss gorge, the eastern end of Lake Wallensee in Switzerland.

It's an awesome video. However, there's also such a thing as pushing your luck. Jumper hurt in leap from Table Mountain

thanks Meta! Not playing with a full deck of cards....His box of deck of cards must have been empty when this guy left manufacturing plant. How does a sane person do that?

Jeb Corliss is focusing a little more on safety now after he hit a rock earlier this year.

He is an incredibly talented wingsuit pilot. Notice that in this video he doesn’t dive deeply into the canyon because his objective was to see how close he could come to the ground at the head of the canyon and that changed his angle of flight.

There is another line which puts the flyer deeper into the canyon and is truly scary looking.

Corliss says that base jumpers start with a full luck bucket and an empty experience bucket and that after a number of years, the luck bucket is empty and the experience bucket is full.

Thanks. Have seen some of Jeb's earlier stuff.

I still don't know how you jump off a cliff. The Navy and I decided we were right for each other when they couldn't convince me that I would have to jump out of a perfectly good plane if I enlisted.

Do you know where that version is? Just checked and didn't see it any place. If you know put up a link.

He does have some great lines.

I think the link disappeared months ago. I recall that it may have been done by the need for speed people (Not Corliss). The segment that I remember was really strange because it involves video from one flyer who is approaching the canyon and all of a sudden another flyer dives in front of the camera at a steep angle and enters the canyon in a line that places the flyer deeply into the canyon. The clip switches just as the flyer starts turning to the left in order to follow the canyon line.

I will see if I can find it again.

Tom thanks! that was awe-some. It is amazing how these guys are cutting a very thin line on margin of error. Thermal effects, wind gusts, wind sheer, changing of wind direction, tear in their suit. At those altitudes, not much of any one of those means your flight just ended.

The other thing that blows my mind is what great shape those guys are in. It is not like they can say they are tired and it is time to take a rest.

Jeb Corliss is an amazing guy with nerves of steel, but the most interesting thing about him is his smoking-hot Italian girlfriend Roberta Mancino, a champion skydiver, boxer, and nude model.
