The MSM would charge the NRA so much that the organization would be broke very shortly.
That of course, is assuming that the MSM would even consider running a commercial from the NRA.

NRA Endowment member here.

I sent them $35 bucks last night to renew my membership. We need to build up the war chest. We also need to unify the NRA and the GOA for this battle. Two forces- two generals-one agenda.

I think that there is just too much bad blood between the groups to cooperate on this. However, I might be wrong. I don’t know too much about what the GOA does these days.

I imagine Barry’s toadies in his “media” are already out there rounding up body doubles to regurgitate to them, “I’m a Republican who vote for Bush, TWICE, and have a son who is a sniper in Iraq but I’m cancelling my NRA membership right now.” You know it’s coming. Get ready. I let my membership lapse. I guess I better get a little skin back in the game and renew it. It’s about to get ugly.

A common enemy like this ought to be sufficient to set aside any differences between overwhelmingly like minded men and women.

You must not forget how bitter the split was between the two groups.

There was some VERY VERY SERIOUS personal animosity between the different individuals involved.

I do think they should coordinate their efforts, but even that is probably too much.

Pride can be a dangerous thing.

Possibly, but once it becomes known that the NRA has done that, it opens the door to charges of dishonesty about intentions.
Foolish I know, but liberals are not the brightest bulbs in the pack on the best of days.

I'm about to become a GAO member too for $20.00. Money well spent.

Because the NRA is a gun control organization. That’s why.

It would be a good idea, IMO, to strongly point out that tens of millions of gun owners are law abiding citizens that don’t run around with their “Assault Weapons” murdering people, and that the actions of a few demented individuals is no excuse to attempt to ban “Assault Weapons”.

Good for you brother. I imagine they’re raking in so much money right now, they’re having trouble counting it. I hope so. They’re gonna need it.

Ok, there’s a reality here you should consider. The NRA is nothing more than lip service when gets down to the brass tax of really defending gun owners. Yes, they donate money, but far too often they donate to dems who are not truly pro 2nd Amendment. They give money to Dems who want magazine limits, bans on semi-autos, etc.

A couple of years ago at a hunting show, they had an NRA booth. The rep there was a former staffer of a member who is NOT truly for gun rights. He was even bad mouthing semi-auto rifles while talking to people. I’ve worked the Hill because of my career. And I was just shocked to see him of all people working as a public rep of the NRA who was supposedly defending my rights.

I too tried to send a message through their contact system. It would not let me complete it. If LaPierre keeps up the window dressing, why should I renew. They recently were on the side of an issue that was going to sell us out on ammo issues.

For close to 3 days now, gun owners have been under attack. And not a single peep out of LaPierre and the NRA.

Oh, and a tip. Elected Officials care about getting re-elected. Which is why the NRA gives donations to the Hill. However, don’t underestimate the impact your voice has if you call your Congressman and tell them you back their next primary opponent or opponent if they give in and take away your gun ownership rights. And that includes having 30 round magazines and semi-autos.

And I said call. Do not fax. Call them. If you know people in other Congressional districts, tell them to call. Trust me, it works. You can also usually send an e-mail through their write the rep system. I know the NRA lobbys...but trust me, if the Congressional members do not get calls or letters, they’ll think that the NRA is blowing smoke and that they can vote for whatever and be fine.

I know most people say that well, they’ll vote that Congressman out if they vote that way. Guess what...it is too late then. Damage to your rights are already done.

If you want to give money to the NRA, hey, that’s your biz. I’m just telling you. You need to call your Congress member and Senator. Trust me, they all check in with their DC Staff and District Staff to see what the call numbers are on an issue...for or against.

Keep in mind, their DC Staff is nothing more than kids who were college interns, who went straight to staff. No real world experience. And their experience is in Washington...a liberal bubble. They are clueless to fly over country. Yet, many of the members listen to the DC staff for some crazy reason.

Again, and I don’t care if your member is a died in the wool conservative, if they don’t hear from you, don’t be surprised if they vote for some gun control.

Not tryng to be a bummer here. Just some reality from someone who had the “joy” of working that dreadful scene.

Simple question: why aren't you running short late night ads on TV that make simple irrefutable points?

Simple Answer: That's not really the goal of the organization.
The NRA is not for the repeal of GCA or NFA, or really anything of lasting consequence. Look at how, in the last few cases, the NRA has pushed for very narrow interpretation of firearm-favorable judicial cases... even when the courts gave indication of being quite open/receptive to a more broad opinion. (In my more cynical moments I think the NRA would be for more restrictions on firearms if the 2nd Amendment were near-strictly followed... for the same reason that the department of welfare has no interest in eliminating/greatly-reducing dependents.)

Could you elaborate on that, perhaps with some links?
