SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. —
Fifty people, including two teachers, were arrested in connection with a multi-county child predator operation in central Florida.
The investigation began on the Internet with postings on message boards and in chat sites. Investigators said the men exchanged photos and even had lengthy conversations with what they thought were children, and in some cases, the parents of those children.
Investigators said each suspect then traveled to Seminole County, thinking they were going to be having sex with children.
A young woman met every suspect at the door of the meet-up home, and hidden deputies arrested them as they entered.

Seminole County, FL in particular does this frequently. Thankfully, these busted perps are total morons.
I found my answer, the police can deceive a potential perp while setting them up for arrest as long as they don’t lure someone into committing a crime who a) has never committed a crime and b) aren’t disposed to commit that type of crime. In this case it appears that all the perps made initial contact and continued until they arranged a “date” with what they thought was a child.

I would say that depends. If they asked the decoy and she/he is not a police officer then I’d say nothing was done wrong here. That decoy did not look old enough or tall enough to be a police woman, but I’ve been wrong before.
P.S. Randy Weaver was entrapped because the undercover ATF agent cajoled him into shortening a shotgun barrel to slightly less than 18”.

I know one of the teachers. I went to church with him for many years. He has always seemed like such a nice guy. He’s a Christian music artist and has been very active in that church for at least 10 years. I honestly don’t know what to feel about this whole thing. I’m obviously disturbed by him trying to arrange to have sex with a minor. I just don’t know what to think, though. My brother told me about a police sting that they carry out sometimes where they place a purse on a bench and then just watch and see who takes the purse or digs through it, then make an arrest. Now, that person may NEVER have robbed a store or a bank or a neighbor, but they dangled this purse in front of them and almost dared them to steal it, then arrested them when they did. This type of sting seems very similar. It’s like they arrest someone for having a weakness that they exploit, but which that person may not have acted on otherwise. In his case, it appears they pretended to be the girl’s mother, offering “family fun.” The “mother” offered her 14 year old daughter to him. The first report I read said that he said no to that offer at first, but the offer was made more than once, until he agreed. My understanding from what I’ve read is that he did not go out seeking sex with a minor. It was offered to him. Not that accepting such an offer would be right. I’m just very conflicted over it.
If you lie to cops, you face charges for it. If they lie to us, no problem.

Police should be held to a higher standard, not a lower one.

I know what it is, I just don’t buy into the whole “we break the law to protect you” method of law enforcement. I don’t buy into law enforcement immunity either.
That attitude, however, would preclude undercover work and, internationally, spying. I don’t think we should eliminate these things.
I think the solution is not to have rogue cops or agents but to have a system in place, I guess like we have, to have legitimately authorized undercover/spies who are vetted and supervised.
