PepsiCo Inc. is removing a controversial ingredient from its Gatorade sports drink in response to customer complaints. A spokeswoman for the company, Molly Carter, said Friday that the change was in the works for the past year after the company began hearing rumblings from consumers about the ingredient.
The petition on Change.org noted that the ingredient, brominated vegetable oil, has been patented as a flame retardant and is banned in Japan and the European Union.
For Gatorade, Carter said the ingredient is used as an emulsifier, meaning it distributes flavoring evenly so that it doesnt collect at the surface. She said it was used only in select varieties including orange and citrus cooler. Other drinks that use brominated vegetable oil, or BVO, include Coca-Colas Fanta and PepsiCos Mountain Dew.

Nicotine without the smoke does increase blood pressure so it is not completely benign but you are right, smoke is the worst way to take a drug.
Mandrake, have you never wondered why I drink only pure grain alcohol? It's because I gave up distilled water and rain water after finding out that even they were contaminating my precious bodily fluids with dihydrogen monoxide.
Got that right. Nicotine is extremely toxic. Pure nicotine requires only a small dose to kill you dead right there.
Customers complaints caused business to change product.
I dare a company to respond to customer complaints.

Now worse than the levels of hydric acid in the tap water everywhere...
No worse than the levels of hydric acid in the tap water everywhere...
OH, your right thats bad too.
how about the fetal cell lines used in flavoring... not controversial??
You must never have eaten my Chili?
The kind that melts ear wax, ignites navel lint and you need ice cubes for toilet tissue in the morning!
Gatorade is about 99.9% water...last I heard, that was even a more potent fire retardant.
