PepsiCo Inc. is removing a controversial ingredient from its Gatorade sports drink in response to customer complaints. A spokeswoman for the company, Molly Carter, said Friday that the change was in the works for the past year after the company began “hearing rumblings” from consumers about the ingredient. …

The petition on Change.org noted that the ingredient, brominated vegetable oil, has been patented as a flame retardant and is banned in Japan and the European Union. …

For Gatorade, Carter said the ingredient is used as an “emulsifier,” meaning it distributes flavoring evenly so that it doesn’t collect at the surface. She said it was used only in select varieties including orange and “citrus cooler.” Other drinks that use brominated vegetable oil, or BVO, include Coca-Cola’s Fanta and PepsiCo’s Mountain Dew. …

Nicotine without the smoke does increase blood pressure so it is not completely benign but you are right, smoke is the worst way to take a drug.

They don’t talk about it, but people who have done a little research have verified that Gatorade contains measurable amounts of dihydrogen monoxide.

Mandrake, have you never wondered why I drink only pure grain alcohol? It's because I gave up distilled water and rain water after finding out that even they were contaminating my precious bodily fluids with dihydrogen monoxide.

Got that right. Nicotine is extremely toxic. Pure nicotine requires only a small dose to kill you dead right there.

Of course someone should point out that if an ingredient is a fire retardant and is therefore bad for a person, then the fire retardant ingredient water is also bad ...

Gatorade is about 99.9% water...last I heard, that was even a more potent fire retardant.
