Gatorade to remove controversial ingredient

PepsiCo Inc. is removing a controversial ingredient from its Gatorade sports drink in response to customer complaints. A spokeswoman for the company, Molly Carter, said Friday that the change was in the works for the past year after the company began “hearing rumblings” from consumers about the ingredient. …

The petition on Change.org noted that the ingredient, brominated vegetable oil, has been patented as a flame retardant and is banned in Japan and the European Union. …

For Gatorade, Carter said the ingredient is used as an “emulsifier,” meaning it distributes flavoring evenly so that it doesn’t collect at the surface. She said it was used only in select varieties including orange and “citrus cooler.” Other drinks that use brominated vegetable oil, or BVO, include Coca-Cola’s Fanta and PepsiCo’s Mountain Dew. …

Yeah, I heard that bromated vegtable oil is bad stuff. Mt. Dew is loaded with it... and I’m in trouble! Kinda like the nasty high fructose corn syrup.

They are ignoring the real culprit. They don’t talk about it, but people who have done a little research have verified that Gatorade contains measurable amounts of dihydrogen monoxide. This stuff kills thousands of people every year — yet many school children are habitually exposed to it during sporting or other activities. Congress will ban it one of these days, but for now, the scourge goes almost unrecognized.

Should I douse my computer with it before posting on Free Republic?

I wonder if this protects against spontaneous combustion?

Hardly coincidental that dihydrogen monoxide is also used as a fire retardent.

I would imagine that if anyone ever took the time to research all the posted ingredients in a product EVERYTHING would be banned.

Like an earlier poster (on another thread) had said he took a test for health insurance and they called it the
enitocin test
(supposedly to see if you smoked - may be a joke etc but it is ‘cute’)

Lethal amounts of Dihydrogen monoxide have also been found in many aquifers and reservoirs. Trace amounts have also been discovered during early morning hours on lawns that are frequented by children and pets.

“Congress will ban it one of these days”

Please - the dihydrogen monoxide lobbyists have figured out a way to make the horses drink, so to speak - offers that cannot be refused.

Been a runner for 30 years and downed more than my share of Gatorade.
Never had any problem with flames so I guess the BVO is working.

Gatorade contains measurable amounts of dihydrogen monoxide.

I have heard that Hydrogen Hydroxide is also very bad and that some kids are actually permitted to bath in it supposedly for the health benefits of doing so.

How crazy is that!

Nicotine in drinks? That is totally kicka$$ and explains how they work for like 20 hour days... Maybe that is why they are so skinny and healthy.....

The Bad thing anbout smoking is not the nicotine, but instead it is the smoke itself. Nicotine is probnably only as bad as Caffine when used as an additive. If people smoked tea leaves and coffee beans they would probably have just as high rates of cancer as tobacco smokers.

I quit gaterade and sodas because of the stuff in them. Sticking to coffee and tea and hoping they have not put too much fillercrap and pestcides in those.

Same with food. Anything packaged has so much exotic chemicals and most that stuff comes from china.
