Schools in Billerica, MA, have dropped grading to make poor students feel good about themselves. Per Fox, the former grading by number (90%, 75%, etc.) has been banned and in its place arbitrary letters have been assigned. A "C" can be anything from a 76% to 100%, with special credit for trying hard and doing homework.
This is another blow from the teachers' union but not entirely unexpected. One has to remember that a big chunk of the 2009 "stimulus" went directly to government unions. The teachers' unions allow no grading of its teachers, so why should the teachers allow grading of their students? Meanwhile, MA is proposing an insane gun grab modeled after the law just passed in New York. Punish the innocent and reward the guilty.
Billerica still has to report on MCAS success if they want to retain state funding. They may have stopped publishing grades but I’ll bet they still grade; they have to to remain compliant with state and federal mandates under NCLB.

How ignorant! It will have exactly the OPPOSITE EFFECT.
In other words, parents and employers will have no idea how a student did in class.
Which means the school/teachers get paid no matter how badly they do.
Ban Public Schools.
Yes they will, if you are from MA you don’t get hired.
Let's put the blame where it belongs, right on the families and the board.

MA and the teachers haven’t failed. The parents have. The parents pay taxes. The parents vote on the school board. The parents can’t be bothered to attend school board meetings or volunteer at school or make sure Johnny did his homework.
When Billerica students try to get into college without any measurement of their performance, then let’s see how good they feel about themselves.

It was also said by one of the nation's preeminent professors: “Those who can, do...those who can't teach.”
If instructors can't differentiate among students and can't determine how well they are doing then the ignorant parents will surely relish being in the old folks home being cared for by their nondescript children who can't determine what care is adequate. At least the parents will love having their children around because their lack of talent prevented them from every leaving home.
