Be still, my heart. Dr Benjamin Carson is freeing up time and energy to pursue his passions in politics and education, retiring from surgery at Johns Hopkins University Hospital. Could world-renowned, up-from-the mean-streets of Detroit inspirational figure be the Man on a White Horse who could rescue America from the fiscal and social death spiral the progressives have foisted upon us?
The Wall Street Journal said it first: "Ben Carson for President".

He was on a program some years ago called “Hopkins 24/7” He stated his anti-gun sentiments quite clearly then.
No link - see post #41
LOL Of course he is. He's just expanding the scale from Hopkins business politics. Are you REALLY that naive?
Some of the negatives expressed above in this thread warrant further exposition. That said, I offer this piece I penned in 2009 for general discussion.
I fear that many of our problems today stem from the fact that far too many of our legislators are LAWYERS. Further, I believe that we need more DOCTORS and engineers, accountants, shop-keepers, small business owners, etc. in those positions and NO LAYWERS!!
Lawyers as legislators pose a very, very serious problem for an ostensibly free people: They LOVE making laws and the more complex and incomprehensible the better. Think about it: In the private sector to which many of them return (hopefully in HUGE NUMBERS IN 2010!!) they, and their buds who remain behind in the private sector, earn their often obscene incomes (in addition to the obscenely generous, COLA congressional pensions and tax subsidized HEALTH CARE!) wading through that Byzantine labyrinth of rules and regulations they, themselves, constructed. Its a process that prompted Otto von Bismarck to remark that Laws are like sausages, it is better not to see them being made. Can I get an AMEN?
While there ARE exceptions (Bill Frist toward the end of his term, Phil Gingrey who strays from time to time) my rule that physicians and engineers make better legislators than most lawyers generally holds true. I attribute that to the fact that doctors and engineers are trained in the SCIENTIFIC METHOD and rely more on FACTS and EMPIRICAL DATA for their decisions. Ron Paul (have to give the anti-Paul people something to rant about!), Larry McDonald, Paul Broun, John Linder, Tom Price are (or were) all doctors. Im sure you can think of other examples/exceptions. The poster boy for the exceptions is Screamin Howard Dean, MD.
Unfortunately, far too many of these guys are ATTORNEYS.
Our late friend and author, composer, conductor, Nashville music producer, lover of Bach, pianist and all-around Renaissance man, Tupper Saussy, who somehow dodged the family tradition of becoming one, traced the term attorney back to the Sanscrit word torwa. And what does torwa mean? TO TWIST! And twist they do. Unfortunately, its not in the wind.
While SOME of these attorney-legislators are conservatives, their law school moot court training forced them to argue BOTH SIDES OF THE SAME CASE. I rather suspect that experience allows them to rationalize voting against the Constitution when expediency and/or their political survival/favor with their party leadership dictates. It is textbook moral relativism and we all pay for their perfidy.
Let me tie that attorney-legislator problem into the current health care debate: I might have missed it but I dont believe there was one mention of TORT REFORM from the lawyers who cobbled together that 1,000+ page monstrosity now dividing the nation.
Ill give you three guesses as to why and the last two dont count!
And heres something to think about for the primary elections to the 2010 general election: If the attorney-legislator representing your district does not pass muster at www.gradegov.com, if you can, find a NON-LAWYER for whom to vote after grilling him on the first principles near and dear to those who cherish freedom and the Constitution.
Too hard, say you?
No. SLAVERY is hard.
“..the NAACP will tag him as an uncle tom.”
the NAACP awarded Dr. Carson their highest honor @ 2006 or 2008, but around that same time he’d suggested the MD Chapter, NAACP invite a conservative (Allen West?) to be keynote speaker at a major NAACP event. The speaker was un-invited due to his political leanings. My memory is pretty fuzzy. It may be that Carson then dropped his NAACP membership. It was quite the controversy at the time.
The Destroyer to come will speak with a sweetened tongue, but will destroy many through peace. Obozo does not posses a sweetened tongue. Might Dr. Carson?
More proof that black leadership only excepts liberals.
A black on the right is one of their greatest fears because they don’t buy into the free ride program.
Your argument is a reductio ad absurdum.
Your definition of politics would include nearly all human interactions making us all politicians on some level. That is NOT the widely regarded definition of a politician.
You never heard of office politics? I can assure you that political games are pretty intense in academic circles, and Hopkins is an academic institution. Anyone who would use a show about medicine to get in a few plugs for gun control is by definition a politician.
“The man is a world class brain surgeon for heavens sake. I seriously doubt he is going to be intimidated by Gloria Allred and her ilk.”
That’s why they have the documentary series about him that is called “Do No Harm.” The good brain surgeon is brilliant by day, but evil at night. It’s his split personality that’ll bring him down.
One thing is certain, our side needs to stand up and support people who are willing to put their butts on the line in defiance of the shame going on now.
Our side rips up anyone that comes into play. That is why we lose!
We need to uplift, elevate, and support people that have the guts to speak truth to power. This guy did that, beyond what we have been seeing. I don’t think we need another Senator or Congress critter. We need a person outside the box.
We need to move this guy into the limelight and showcase his love for the country!
I'll wait too, but if he turns out to be a true Conservative, you can bet the GOP elite will do everything they can to demonize him.
That links the video. It's just over 27 minutes long. It's dynamite!
That's bad news. I googled "Dr. ben carson" "gun control". It's getting tangled up with gun control because gun control is in the news. Do you have any links?
“dr benjamin carson”+gun returns absolutely nothing regarding gun control.
I really like Carson but he’ll have to queue up behind Senators Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz, who are the best we have, bar none. They are the immediate future of the conservative movement and the heirs of Reaganism. They also make Obama look like he’s in grade school.
