My best was some friends on vacation. We got in their house and build a wall blocking the hallway to their bedrooms. When I said wall, I mean Wall. Studs, drywall, paint, the works. They got home after all day on the road. We had a video camera record the reaction. Yea, it was that good.

I suspect that the girl you mention who was on a date is not the usual female. Most women’s brains do not function that way. I suppose it’s some sort of hard-wired protection that has us checking out our surroundings and noticing what’s going on even as we are concentrating on something.

IIRC, the "trick" was to get the female talking, and showing interest in what she was saying. Obviously, she was comfortable with who she was with as well as the surroundings.

Not to say that only females are susceptible to losing awareness of the surroundings. I just remember that particular segment of the program, which had other examples, some of which had men losing track of their surroundings.
