It's official: Women ARE grumpier than men in the mornings
Daily Mail (UK) ^ | 18:30 EST, 12 March 2013 | (Daily Mail Reporter)

Posted on 03/13/2013 1:05:13 AM PDT by Olog-hai

If the woman in your life woke up grumpy this morning, don’t be too hard on her. It is, apparently, only natural.

Scientists have discovered that women need more sleep than men. And chances are, she’s not getting enough. In fact, the best thing a loving husband or partner can do is perhaps persuade her to get a few extra hours snuggling under the duvet. Or face the consequences.

Scientists say women suffer more than men, both mentally and physically, if they are forced to skimp on their sleep. As well as a higher risk of heart disease, depression and psychological problems, sleep-deprived women have extra clotting factors in their blood, which can lead to a stroke. They also have higher inflammation markers, which indicate developing health problems. …

Who cares what some study says. Get up, get busy and get over it and quit whining.

All I want my wife to do in the morning is make my coffee, breakfast, and a sammich for my lunch.

Conversation is not necessary.

How much did that study cost the taxpayer?

Actually, this was translated from the ancient texts, and translated badly, I'm afraid. What it really means is: "women need to be knocked out more than men."

LOL BG! Same here. I’m a morning person if I’ve stayed up all night. If I have to get up, then that’s another thing.

Have these scientists never met a woman?

They've ALWAYS said that ;o)

I don’t care HOW much sleep I’ve had! LEAVE ME ALONE till I want to talk! ;)

The very WORSE is when Gramps greets me with a cheery hello right after I’ve woke up to ask what’s for dinner.

I got rid of all of my cast iron skillets as I believed they were a liability. Har!

On a serious note, I just had a thought: if this study is to be treated as true (instead of the piled-high cow manure that most studies are), then it is a big indictment of women in combat. As a former grunt, I can tell you that a good night's sleep is something you wave bye-bye to the moment you jump off the cattle car to the reception station at Basic. Combat is worse. And you still have to do some really technical stuff even when you haven't slept in 24 hours.

So, here is a "scientific" study that argues against women in combat. Think it will survive long if that point is made?

During WWII, when women worked in the factories, they were on par, for errors and injuries, with the men when the workday was 8 hours/day. However, when those days were increased to 12 hours/day, the women’s rates increased many times over, whereas the men were not affected.

It really depends on WHAT or WHO wakes me up. If it’s the bab, it’s instant sunshine. Every time. ALL the time. I honestly can’t remember a single time I have ever been grumpy at her in five years. It’s like I can’t help but smile from ear to ear just seeing her standing there or her prying open my one eye to see if I’m “in there.”

Yes, I would like to have about three hours of quiet before I need to make conversation. I get up early enough for that. But every once in a while, my husband gets up early, too.

That is when the fight began.

Well, here’s the problem right here:

“‘The more of your brain you use during the day, the more of it that needs to recover and, consequently, the more sleep you need.”

Since Adam and Eve...
And the pain thing? Have you ever seen a guy with a hangnail that doesn’t think it’s a mortal wound?

Can’t speak for the “man vs. woman in the morning” thing, but mornings are made for SILENCE! And I wish somebody’d tell that rule to some of my co-workers. Early morning is cerebral time, not shouting/telling stories/bragging/BSing time!

Oh, can someone tell the guy next to me to STHU?

If I haven’t had enough sleep, it’s later in the day that I’m really affected. So I believe their basic data, but I’m not sure it translates to morning grumpiness in particular.

This week, with the time change, has really kicked my butt. I get up at 4am as it is, and I have never really been a morning person. Now it’s exacerbated by losing an hour.

An hour! Who know one freaking hour could mess up an entire week.

Mr. Mom4Melody is unaffected. Maybe the article has some merit.

Need sleep? Then get the heck to bed!

This makes sense. I am way less cranky than my husband when I wake up (but I do need quiet in my early morning work hours). However, I don’t like working more than about a 10 hour work day, and I get cranky at the end of a really long day (i.e. bedtime).
