Last weeks sale price at OfficeMax (where I bought it) was $350 when tax is included.

I had a Toshiba for years 'til it finally conked out on me. It survived a lot of abuse and traveling. The weak point seemed to be the AC adapter port. I had to replace the actual adapter twice due to shorts where the wire joined the actual plug, and the last time it went, it was the actual port inside the computer that gave way.

As best you can, try not to bend the cable near the plug, or jostle the area too much, but that's probably sound advice for any laptop, not just Toshiba.

I have an Toshiba laptop A665 running Windows 7 Home Edition. Over 2 years old. Very solid computer, I can’t think of a single problem.

The extra memory won’t make any difference on a 32 bit system. I can only use 4 Gigs.

I got a new HP with windows 8. This program looks like some kid made it. It looks like some teenybopper game. It is not easy to use and really counter intuitive.

Finally retired the old Satellite - it never let me down. If this one is anything like it, you’re in good hands.

Don’t know about the model specifically but if this is your first dance with Windows 8, you’re in for a rough week.

Stick with it, eventually you get the hang of it and it can be adjusted to look like a 7.

Let us know if you find a way to get rid of that damn space needle image at logout. I never could.

Oh yes, the AC adapter went out after a year. Bought a third party replacement which has been holding out. Otherwise, solid build.

Low end system all around. Save your money and don’t add memory. You can’t use more than 4 Mb unless you upgrade to 64-bit OS.

As long as this is not a Windows 8 system, sounds like you are good to go.

Toshiba makes a good laptop. Actually works better for $350-400 bucks than the $1,200 I paid for a much higher end laptop that conked out on me several times, with the same problems.

The only problem is that they don’t have a video card that would support gaming. I can only play old games, maybe those around 2009 being at the absolute limit. Nothing new can work, even if it looks simple.

Got this for $350 when taxes are included. Has Windows 8. I have not opened the box yet and will wait until Sunday to see if there isn’t some thing better out there at Best Buy, Staples, Office Depot etc...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FWIW... Best Buy offers a 30 day price match guarantee.
I have a Toshiba Satellite L555 that I bought in early 2010 – bought it at B.J.’s Warehouse club for around $400. Sweet machine, runs well, love the 17” HD LED backlit monitor and the extended key board. And this is my second Toshiba Satellite. I loved that one too, ran it for about 4 years and beat the crap out of it when I was doing consulting work and schlepped it back and forth from Baltimore to Annapolis every day.
I had an HP laptop once – hated it.
Seems quite good for the price.
Review: http://www.trustedreviews.com/toshiba-satellite-c855_Laptop_review
I assume the Windows 8 is the 64bit version (better be!) and if so, the Maximum Memory is 16GB Memory Type: DDR3 PC3-12800, DDR3 (non-ECC)
Slots: 2.
See my Windows 8 pro review on FR here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2983661/posts Get Classic Shell if you do not like the playground type desktop.
HD is 5400rpm, the norm for laptops, versus the standard 7200 for desktops.
Here is a lot of the bloat you can do likely do without:
1 month trial for new Microsoft® Office 365 customers, Hard disc (HDD) recovery, Norton Anti-Theft™ (30-day Trial), Norton Internet Suite™ (30-day trial), Norton™ PC Checkup, Norton Online Backup (30-day Trial), TOSHIBA App Place, TOSHIBA BookPlace™, , WildTangent® Orb™ Games Console
My last 3 laptops that weren’t for work were Toshibas. I’ve been happy with them other than a couple of quality issues regarding the case coming apart near the monitor and the monitor becoming lose to where it won’t stay at a certain angle (doesn’t move much but enough to be annoying). Of course, if you leave it on a desk most of the time you probably won’t have that problem. The other caveat is that the problems described above I had with two of them were after they were a couple of years old so it can be attributed to wear and tear.
For some reason my Toshiba Satellite won’t play DVD’s without stopping and starting. Very annoying when trying to watch movies. It’s like trying to watch a movie on the internet with the constant buffering.
