MotoGP - Circuit of the Americas

Posted on 04/23/2013 5:30:17 PM PDT by donaldo

I attended my first MotoGP race over the weekend at The Circuit of the Americas in Austin. I've been following MotoGP for years and I've seen many races on the Speed Channel. Believe me, nothing can prepare you for this experience. Until you see and hear those motorcycles in person you haven't an inkling of the power and acceleration. It was a Repsol Honda day. The rookie Marc Marquez won, followed by fellow Spaniards Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha). This was on my bucket list and I was tremendously impressed. The traffic was horrendous but I knew that going in. All-in-all The Circuit of the Americas did an admirable job. Now, for the Isle on Man TT - I wish!

The week before Labor Day in Indy for the GP

Ride back to Indy the next week-end for the Nationals

Unreal the speed of those bikes through the turns

Isle on Man! One lap around the island is all I ask. 37 miles of pure bliss.
I could be Giacomo Agostini in my mind once more.

Glad you enjoyed it.
I drive one of the medical rescue cars for the MotoGP Indy.
It’s crazy to see those guys go down the straightaway at 200 mph +

Did it on “Hell Day” at the IOM TT. Scary! Spent a week there for the TT in 1981. Have ridden on Sears Point, Riverside, Laguna Seca, and several others in Californiacation. The Sunday Morning Ride in Marin County, and the Rock Store in SoCal. The TT was the ultimate.

I saw a WSB race at Laguna Seca in 95. Accelerating out of a corner, front wheel off the ground, rear wheel spinning and still leaned over (granted, that was before traction control)...WOW.
Now I ride a KTM Superduke. Occasional track days.
